"Roy-alty Check" is the second segment of the thirty-fourth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Kiff.

Synopsis[]

Martin and Beryl vie for Kiff’s favor when Kiff comes into some money.

Plot[]

Kiff has received a royalty check for her film Found in Ambiguity from Roy Fox and is excited about her "10,000 smackers". Martin wants to use some of the money to fix the Chatterley residence's basement, but Beryl insists that Kiff should be able to spend her money however she wants to, while also remarking that the roof is in need of more urgent repairs. Kiff suggests that each of them can prepare a presentation to help Kiff decide whether to allocate money for the basement or the roof.

To get a head start on Beryl, who has recently downloaded new presentation software, Martin quickly builds a diorama about the importance of basements for his presentation, but it falls apart. He goes to the kitchen for some orange juice and finds a note from Beryl and Kiff saying that they are out dining at Café Penguino. Recognizing that Beryl is trying to sway Kiff with brunch, Martin decides to play dirty as well. He heads to the restaurant, and while Beryl is using the restroom, he takes Kiff to the Table Town Circus in an attempt to one-up Beryl.

At the circus, Martin subtly nudges Kiff toward his side of the debate by explaining that during the clown car routine, the clowns are coming out from the area under the floor. Not to be outdone, Beryl arrives and convinces the circus management to cancel the clown car routine and let her perform a trapeze stunt instead, which she uses as an opportunity to convince Kiff of the importance of roofs.

Martin takes Kiff back home and brings her to the basement, where he hammers one of its support beams to show Kiff how frail they are. Beryl returns and similarly demonstrates how frail the roof's tiles are. Noticing that Beryl and Martin are essentially tearing the house apart, Kiff suggests that they present their arguments in a more civilized way: in song. Beryl and Martin's ensuing musical number ends up lasting the entire day, then resuming the next day after the two follow Kiff to school. Exasperated, Kiff finally decides to simply split the money between Beryl and Martin, which they agree is a reasonable solution. However, they are then shocked to discover that the check is only for 26 nuts. Kiff explains that "10,000 smackers" is what she says when she is so excited about something that she wants to "kiss it 10,000 times", and that she has no idea how much renovations cost.

Trivia[]

  • Opening Sponsor: Table Town Circus
  • Sweepy Steve appears but has no dialogue.

Continuity[]

  • The events of "Blooper Quest" are revisited. Kiff receives a royalty check for Found in Ambiguity, the film she co-wrote and directed.
  • Sweepy Steve is seen reading the book Top Jokes for Moms & Dads from "Club Book".
  • One of the boxes in the basement is labeled Lil' Ouchie Booboo!, a film first mentioned in "Be Still My Harp".
  • Bottles of olive soap are seen on a shelf at Partials.
  • The episode's title is a play on "royalty check", a payment made to the owner of intellectual property. Roy gave Kiff a check for the movie, but clearly swindled her even though Roy invested in the movie and it was a success.
