The Royal Guards are minor characters in the 2025 live-action remake of Snow White. They are the guards that once served their loyalties only to the Evil Queen after the departure and later death of the Good King.
Background[]
When the Good King and the Good Queen were alive, the guards worked for them and a couple of them travelled with them when a snowstorm hit the kingdom, and some of them used to be farmers, bakers, or villagers, when their daughter was born, whom they named Snow White.
Over the years, the guards enjoyed working for the king and queen as they were good and kind rulers, who cared for the townsfolk. However, everything went downhill when the queen fell ill and died, which led to the king marrying an unnamed woman, who ruled beside him. When the king suddenly disappeared and died, the queen took over as the sole ruler and this drastically changed the guards' actions and perspective on life as they were given orders by the queen to become more sinister. And some farmers, bakers, and villagers were turned into them.
Role in the film[]
When Snow White is a young woman, the queen sends the guards to help her get rid of the princess after the Huntsman fails to follow the queen's orders to kill the young princess and sets her free. The following morning, the queen sends her guards into the forest to find the princess, who comes across Jonathan and the bandits. The thief and his friends distract the guards so that Snow White can run away to safety. This leads to a fight between the guards and the bandits and Jonathan takes an arrow for Snow when they spot her. The guards later arrive near the Dwarfs' cottage, where Doc heals Jonathan. Fearing the guards are nearby, Jonathan decides that everyone needs to leave the area.
After Snow White is awakened with a true loves kiss by Jonathan and freed from her sleeping curse, they return to the castle where the guards are seen protecting the queen. Snow White reveals herself to her stepmother, who orders the guards to grab her. Seeing the good in everyone, Snow White tries to get through to the guards and talks about how different they used to be when her parents were ruling the kingdom, before the Evil Queen took over. One by one, the guards start to remember their old lives and turn on the Queen. When the Queen is defeated, the guards go back to caring for Snow White as she becomes the new ruler of the kingdom after marrying Jonathan, who rules beside her. And some of the guards go back to their old lives and jobs. The guards celebrate with the kingdom on the marriage and that hope has been restored.
