The Royal Ship is a sailing ship featured in the 1989 Disney animated film The Little Mermaid.
Appearances[]
The Little Mermaid[]
The ship is first seen when the film begins, where a sailor tells Prince Eric and Grimsby the supposed legend surrounding King Triton.
The ship is seen again later in the film, when Ariel swims to the surface to examine it, while it shoots fireworks into the night sky as the crew dances in celebration of Prince Eric's birthday. Ariel is completely smitten and enamored when she sees him, who is given a large statue of himself as a birthday present by Grimsby.
Unfortunately, a hurricane strikes without warning, sweeping up both the ship and crew violently in a volley of wind and water. Ariel is thrown off the ship and into the sea, while Scuttle is blown away by the wind. Ariel surfaces just in time to witness a bolt of lightning strike one of the sails, catching the ship on fire. When it crashes into a gaggle of rocks, the crew is sent overboard, along with the statue. Though they all make it to the lifeboat, Eric discovers that Max is still on the ship, and goes to rescue him. After managing to get him to safety, Eric gets his foot stuck in a hole, and is unable to pull it out. He is then blown away by a massive explosion and lands in the sea, unconscious. Seeing him in danger of drowning, Ariel rushes toward his aid, rescues him, and brings him back to shore.
The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea[]
The ship appears in a cameo during the song "Tip and Dash".
Once Upon a Time[]
This ship appeared on the show in Season 3 and was used by Prince Eric for travel to Agrabah.
The Little Mermaid (2023 film)[]
The ship appears in the live action remake of the 1989 film. Just like the original film, Eric is on a voyage with Grimsby at the start of the film when a storm attacks the ship and Eric falls overboard. Ariel sees the prince and saves Eric's life. Eric later boards the ship again during "Wild Uncharted Waters", after hearing Ariel's voice that saved his life, and vows to find the woman who rescued him.
