Russell Ira Crowe is an New Zealand-born Australian actor, director, film producer, and musician. He came to international attention for his role as the Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in the 2000 historical epic film, Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, for which Crowe won an Academy Award for Best Actor, a Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Actor, an Empire Award for Best Actor, a London Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor, and 10 further nominations for best actor. He is best known for his short temper.

For Disney, he played Sheriff John Biebe in the 1999 Hollywood Pictures film Mystery, Alaska, Jeffrey Wigand in the 1999 Touchstone Pictures film The Insider, and Jim Braddock in the 2005 Universal Studios/Touchstone Pictures film Cinderella Man. He also portrayed Zeus in the 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Love and Thunder.
