Sally is a hopeful young woman with a great love for her son, Percy. At times she has moments of whimsy, tied to the fact that she had an encounter with Poseidon that changed her life forever and made her realize the dangers her son would be in. Sally has a tough side to her and is able to take charge of any situation, talking back to Gabe Ugliano and taking on the Minotaur to protect her son. Sally is a good mother and a loving, caring person.
Physical appearance[]
Sally is a woman who appears to be in her late 30s, early 40s. She has long brown hair and her clothing mainly consists of comfortable wear that implies a very modest income.
Role in the series[]
The Lightning Thief[]
Many years ago, Sally Jackson met the god Poseidon and had an intimate relationship with him. She ended up conceiving a child whom she would name Percy. Sally had to raise Percy on her own and knew very well that things would be coming for him. Despite loving her son, this stressed her out and at one point thought of simply turning him over to Camp Half-Blood at prepubescent age. A chat with Poseidon convinced her that this was wrong and that she needed to be there for Percy and have him have as normal a childhood as he possibly could before destiny came calling for him.
To keep Percy hidden from dark forces, Sally started a relationship with Gabe Ugliano, a repugnant man whose smell was enough to hide Percy from monsters. Despite Gabe's ignorance and shallow behavior, Sally stayed tough and was able to keep him at level with her. One day, Percy came home from school, after having been kicked out, to tell her that something strange happened. Realizing that it was time, Sally decided to take Percy to the beach house for the weekend to finally tell him everything.
At the beach house, Sally attempted to tell Percy everything about his lineage, but he finds it hard to believe, until his friend Grover Underwood suddenly arrives and reveals that he is a satyr. Now with forces after Percy, Sally and Grover take him to Camp Half-Blood while hastily explaining what is to happen. They are run off the road by the Minotaur and find the Thalia tree overlooking Camp Half-Blood. However, Sally is unable to follow and informs Percy that she loves him that he will accomplish great things. Using his jacket, Sally distracts the Minotaur who grabs her. Just as she is about to be crushed, she suddenly disappears in a haze.
Contrary to what Percy saw, it was revealed Sally was snatched away at the last minute by Hades, the one sending monsters after Percy because he thought he took his Helm of Darkness. Percy and Grover arrive in the Underworld to rescue her, only to learn about the Helm. Realizing that he cannot save his mother just yet, Percy and Grover are forced to leave, though they promise to bring the Helm back.
Percy was ultimately successful in his quest as Sally was returned to the living world and resumed her life with Percy. Having finally found some common ground in their life, Sally kicks Gabe out and divorces him and happily continues to spend her life with Percy.

- Prior to Virginia Kull playing her, Sally was played by Catherine Keener in the film adaptation and Jalynn Steele (who also played Silena Beauregard, the Oracle, Echidna, and Charon) in the Broadway show.
