"Sammy's Song" is the 14th episode of the fourth season of Pepper Ann. It aired on February 15, 2000.

Synopsis[]

Pepper Ann protests against a peanut butter company whose jars are dangerous to animals.

Plot[]

Janie is making herself a peanut butter sandwich using a Pyramid Peanut Butter brand (which fittingly has peanut butter in a pyramid shaped jar). As she goes outside, she encounters a skunk that has its head stuck in a Pyramid Peanut Butter jar; forcing her to rescue it, but getting skunked in the process. She leads a movement to have the jars altered so that they can be skunk friendly, but Pepper Ann thinks they should use force instead to take down the "evil" company, but Janie tells her that they are not evil and that they simply need to write to them.

Pepper Ann discovers that Janie's method worked as the jars have been made so that skunks will not get their heads stuck in them. However, gophers are not at risk of getting harmed from them, angering Pepper Ann. She goes to one of Janie's group meetings, where she is absent, and convinces the group to steal a shipment of the peanut butter until they are safe for both gophers and skunks. However, this plan backfires as people are angered at the group for ruining certain businesses who needed the peanut butter for their jobs or personal health.

Taking what Janie had told her earlier, Pepper Ann convinces the group that they should return the jars, but with a tag on them warning people to crush the jars before throwing them away. While trying to return them, Pepper Ann is caught by Janie and JoJo and forced to come clean to the CEO of the company. While he is angry with the group, he is relieved to see that customers are happy with the change in the products appearance and thanks them, though he still has them fulfill community service as punishment, much to Pepper Ann's chagrin.

Cast[]

Desk Gag[]

"Iceberg, dead ahead!"

Trivia[]

  • The episode somewhat predicted the "Black Lives Matter" movement. In Pepper Ann's fantasy, when she asks that the big companies take responsibility for harming skunks, the CEO reluctantly declares "Skunk Lives Matter!"
  • Pepper Ann is technically a juvenile delinquent in this episode as she has to fulfill community service.
