Sandman (real name Flint Marko) is a supervillain who appears in the Marvel Comics animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.
Sandman was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
History[]
Early life[]
Flint Marko was a criminal, when one day he escaped from prison, but unfortunately was caught up in an atomic explosion. The explosion had mutated Flint into sand particles and was enable to control them. Later, Nick Fury captured him and left him on an isolated island at the Bermuda Triangle. He became lonely at the island and created a playmate for himself, which he called "Sandy".
Present[]
Flint was visited one day by Spider-Man and the other trainees, who were on vacation. He decided to play with them, but the trainees escaped with the plane from his dangerous actions. Unnoticed by Spider-Man and the others, Sandman hid inside Spider-Man's unitard. He was noticed by them and they landed the plane on the river that was encased in ice. Sandman tried to get on land to destroy Manhattan, but was stopped by Nova, who heated his silica in the sand to glass.
S.H.I.E.L.D. put him in a special hourglass prison that stopped his reformation with vibrations. Many months later, a brief accident caused by the Awesome Android allows Sandman to escape but instead of fleeing, he saves the scientists from the flames. Afterwards, Flint gains a chance to change while being supervised by Spider-Man. So equipped with a special outfit that limits his powers and Spider-Man having a watch that can send electric shocks to subdue him, Sandman confronts Swarm but he gets a little too carried away until Spider-Man manages to calm him down. . The duo go the next day to town and confront Batroc the Leaper whose taunts once again cause Flint to lose his temper. Things escalate when J. Jonah Jameson belittles and calls Sandman a monstrosity, the sand being is so overwhelmed with his emotions that he eventually decides to stop changing because it's too hard and destroys Sandman's watch. Spider-Man to have no more limitation. Using Awesome Android, Spider-Man once again managed to subdue Sandman.
When the New Sinister Six later capture him and take him to a secret base in the Bermuda Triangle to create clones of him, Spider-Man and Iron Spider are able to free him. Subsequently, Sandman repents of his past mistakes but does not believe he is ready to join S.H.I.E.L.D Academy yet and chooses to remain hidden in the beach surrounding the building until the right moment arrives.
