Santa Claus, currently known as Santa 17, is a supporting character in The Santa Clauses. He is a supernatural being and the accepted 17th incarnation of Santa who passed his job on to Scott Calvin following his "accident".
Background[]
Personality[]
Santa 17 is the definitive portrayal of the famed legend. Kind, considerate, jolly, and empathetic, Santa 17 is always trying to steer people in the right direction, usually children, though this can extend to adults as well. He is well aware that adults like Scott are difficult to manage, but never gives up on them. He loves to make jokes, no matter how simple they are, but is always motivated to do the right thing, regardless of whether he gets anything else in return.
Physical appearance[]
Santa 17 is the stereotypical image of Santa. A large man in a red suit with white trimming and a long white beard. What sets him apart is the noticeable snowflake patch on his sleeve.
Powers and abilities[]
Santa 17 possesses the typical powers of Santa including personal cognitive abilities, magic manipulation and most likely flight with the help of his magic sack.
Appearances[]
The Santa Clause[]
Santa 17, then known as simply Santa Claus, was making his usual rounds one Christmas Eve when he was startled by the arrival of Scott Calvin. When he shouted up at him, Santa slipped and fell off the roof with a thud, supposedly killing him. Once Scott and his son Charlie took their eyes off of him for one moment, he waved and disappeared, leaving his suit behind along with a card reading "If something should happen to me, put on the suit. The reindeer will know what to do".
The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause[]
Santa 17 is seen falling off the roof of Scott's home when Scott Calvin and Jack Frost go back in time. Only this time, he is startled by Jack shouting "Hey you!", causing him to fall. After this, Jack takes the Santa coat, becoming the next Santa Claus in Scott's place until Scott later restores the timeline.
The Santa Clauses[]
Santa 17's spirit took off and entered the Yule-verse, an in-between dimension for all things Christmas. It turns out that one fateful night on Scott's roof was planned all along. Santa 17, named so after the fact that he is the 17th incarnation, had served as the prime gift giver for many years. With the world changing and people's minds moving on to other things, Santa 17 realized that it was time for him to move on. All prior Santas had been ethereal and it was decided that for the first time a human shall don the red suit. Santa 17 planned his "death" by slipping and falling off the roof of Scott Calvin's house, having chosen him specifically after seeing his kindly spirit as a child.
Santa 17 met Scott once again in an attempt to convince him to return to the role of Santa. He revealed everything to him including the truth as to why he chose to pass on the job to him.
Trivia[]
- This is Jim O'Heir's second portrayal of Santa Claus, the first time being an appearance on Austin & Ally.
- In the original script, Santa 17 was to have been killed by Scott with a shotgun. Once Disney purchased the script, this was rewritten to him simply slipping off the roof.
- He was mentioned in The Santa Clause 2 when Curtis told Scott that when Santa 17 fell of his roof, put on his coat, and found the card.
