Señora Guzmán is a character, who appears in Disney's 2021 animated feature film Encanto. She is the mother of Mariano Guzmán.
Background[]
Señora Guzmán is the elderly mother of Mariano Guzmán. She and Mariano went to Casa Madrigal so he could propose to Isabela. But the dinner and the proposal were ruined due to many events that happened while Mirabel was trying to prevent everyone from discovering the truth about what was happening to the miracle and Mariano ended up with his nose broken. Señora Guzmán was later seen with Abuela trying to help Mariano with his nose when they all see Isabela's new exotic plants. Then, she, her son, and everyone in the village gathers together to help the Madrigals rebuild their house and so they managed to, resulting in the magic being restored.
Personality[]
Not much is known about her personality, except that she seems to have a good relationship with her son. She also seems to be on good terms with Abuela and the family, as she and her son helped her and her family rebuild Casita.
Physical appearance[]
Señora Guzmán is an old Colombian woman with brown eyes, and grey hair that she wears in a bun. She wears a soft yellow capelet with a flowers and leaves pattern on the bottom hold by a gold flower-shaped brooch with a circular green gem on it, a green dress with yellow and orange streaks on the bottom, white pearl earrings, and a marriage gold ring on the finger of her left hand.
Role in the film[]
Señora Guzmán first appears with her son, Mariano, where she watches him gaze dreamily at his fiancée, Isabela Madrigal as she magically makes flowers bloom everywhere around the village.
She is next seen during the dinner where Mariano is to propose to Isabela, hoping that the dinner won't turn out to be a disaster. When Agustín suggests that he proposes as fast as he can, she says that her son would like to begin with a song, and asks for Luisa to bring over the piano. Although she is stressed over losing her gift, she still agrees.
When the dinner starts to escalate into a disaster and cracks start forming everywhere, she questions what is happening, and Dolores blurts that Mirabel has found Bruno's vision, and everyone is doomed because of her.
She then escorts her son, whose nose is now injured, out of the house, despite Alma's pleas for them to stay. She is also then briefly seen during the "What Else Can I Do?" song, where Alma is trying to make things right, but Mariano's nose gets injured again.
Finally, she is seeing during the "All of You" song, when all of the townspeople come to help the Madrigals rebuild Casita. She is not seen for the remainder of the song, however.

Trivia[]
- The script refers to her as "Abuela Guzmán", suggesting that she was originally going to be Mariano's paternal grandmother. She is also called Abuela Guzman in the junior novelization. The credits of the film say "Señora Guzmán".
- Señora Guzmán is most likely married as she has been seen wearing a wedding ring.
