Sebastian "Seb" Matthew-Smith is a major character from the Disney+ Original Series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Seb was originally a recurring character in Season 1. Then Seb became a main character in Season 2.[1] Seb was a guest star in Season 3. Seb was a recurring character in Season 4. Seb was a sophomore at East High School in Season 1 and Season 2. Seb is a junior at East High School in Season 4. In Season 1, he was casted as the gender-bent version of Sharpay Evans in East High School's fall production High School Musical. In Season 2, he was casted as Chip Potts in East High School's spring production of Beauty and the Beast.

Seb is known for being caring, friendly, and kind to others. Despite a show-stopping performance as Sharpay, Seb happens to be quite introverted. His polite and caring nature makes him fairly likable among his peers. At times, Seb can be a little naïve. Recently, he has shown signs of only talking about cows and animals. The fact that he lives on a farm is becoming a large part of his personality.

Seb Matthew-Smith was born sometime in 2004. Not much is known about his childhood other than the fact his family owns a farm.
Season One[]
The Auditions[]
On the first day of school Seb is sitting next to his friend Natalie Bagley at lunch. Seb can be seen in line for people that want to join the musical. Miss Jenn thinks he'll audition for the role of Ryan. Carlos says that he would rather play Sharpay. Seb nods and Miss Jenn agrees that the gender-bent version of the role would be interesting for the show.
The Read-Through[]
Seb gets up from his seat at the read-through to talk to Ashlyn. He compliments her glasses, saying that he has the same ones at home. After Ashlyn asks him why, he tells her it's to help him see better when he's milking one of his cows. This cuts to a confessional where Seb explains to the audience that he stands out in his farming family.

Act Two[]
Seb is unsure if he can perform "Bop to the Top" in Act II because his large family waits eagerly for him in the bleachers. He tells Carlos, who gives him a kiss on the cheek and tells him that no one else can do it as well as he can. With a newfound confidence, he walks onto the stage and performs.

- Seb is named after Peter Matthew Smith, an actor who played the role of King George in Hamilton and is an old theater friend of the creator High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Tim Federle.[2]
- Tim Federle the creator of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series made the character Seb specifically for Joe Serafini who originally auditioned for E.J. Caswell.[3]
- In The Read-Through, Seb compliments Ashlyn's Grandma Glasses by saying they are cool and he has the same ones at home. Ashlyn Caswell asks him "Why?" and he replies that he wears them so he can see when he's milking.
