Sebastian is the tritagonist of the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Unlike in the original film, this version of Sebastian is depicted as King Triton's major-domo (similar to Zazu) instead of being a composer or songwriter.
He is based on the character of the same name from 1989 animated film.
Role in film[]
After King Triton notices his daughter Ariel is not present during the Coral Moon event, he tells Sebastian to keep a watch over Ariel to make sure she is present. Unfortunately, because of Ariel's absence, the event was a failure. Sebastian then approaches Ariel, who is talking to Scuttle underwater, and prompts her to return to her father. Upon her return, King Triton is very unhappy since she did not attend the Coral Moon Event, much to Sebastian's disappointment, as he had a hard time watching over Ariel.
After Ariel rescues Eric from drowning underwater, she encounters Sebastian who tells her that the ocean is her home, and that spending life under the sea is better than spending life above the surface, as he sings the musical number "Under the Sea" to Ariel. Throughout the musical number he sings to Ariel how the fish are comfortable living underwater. Sebastian also dances with a large number of sea creatures who dance with Ariel. However, Ariel suddenly disappears, just as Sebastian and the other sea creatures notice this, prompting the sea creatures to also leave, much to Sebastian's disappointment. Later, when Triton is talking to his other daughters about Ariel who saved a human from drowning in the ocean, he becomes furious of what Ariel did and scolds Ariel for breaking the rule.
After Triton destroys Ariel's treasures inside her grotto, Ariel then decides to talk to Ursula, much to Sebastian and Flounder's worry. Just as Ariel makes a deal with Ursula, Sebastian and Flounder react to Ariel in shock when she traded her mermaid tail, her voice, and her ability to breathe underwater as she heads to the surface in human form. Suddenly, Sebastian approaches Ariel, who notices that she has legs, as he reacts to her about what she did after she made a deal with the sea witch, alongside Flounder. Throughout the first two days, Sebastian tries to help Ariel fall in love with Prince Eric when Ariel's plan to find true love's kiss was unsuccessful. Later, Sebastian takes part during the musical number "Kiss the Girl" singing to encourage Ariel to kiss Eric, only for Flotsam and Jetsam to knock them off the boat, causing them to fail.
The next day during the musical number "The Scuttlebutt", Scuttle alerts Sebastian about Ursula who is worried about what she saw. Sebastian later became worried about what Scuttle reported to him alongside Flounder, leading Ariel to stop the wedding between Eric and "Vanessa". By the time Vanessa is revealed to be Ursula in disguise, Sebastian, Scuttle and Flounder are horrified of this, and retreat. After Ariel kills Ursula during the battle and Triton becomes revived, Sebastian suggests that Triton let Ariel live her own life so that she can fall in love with Prince Eric, so Triton turns his daughter into a human, making her fall in love with Prince Eric as the two get married; Sebastian, Scuttle, and Flounder happily observe Ariel and Eric as the newly married couple.

- Unlike Sebastian's animated counterpart, he is King Triton's assistant, instead of a musician.
