"Secret Identity Crisis" is the third episode, of Marvel's Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It premiered on February 5, 2025, followed by "Hitting the Big Time".
Synopsis[]
Peter deals with the fallout of his secret revealed. Meanwhile, Lonnie's perfect life falls apart.
Plot[]
After Osborn reveals that he knows Peter is Spider-Man, he informs him that he will keep his secret safe. This still haunts Peter, even when he returns home. Nico offers to take Peter to the movies, but he tells her that he is having dinner with Osborn. At an empty restaurant, Peter attempts to tell Osborn he isn't Spider-Man, but he sees through his lie. He reveals that following the rescue of his son Harry, he began to piece together the possible candidates for who Spider-Man was, ultimately coming down to Amadeus, Jeanne, Asha, and Peter himself. He offers his services to aid him, but Peter politely turns him down. Osborn leaves the door open just in case and a check.
Elsewhere, criminal couple James Sanders and Maria Vasquez pay off a hidden third party and receive speed boots and gauntlets, respectively, becoming Speed Demon and Tarantula. Peter learns that May is selling off some items so they can quickly make money, among them a camera that Peter decides to keep for himself. While at school, Lonnie Lincoln gets a frantic call from his mother that something happened and has Pearl drive him back home. When he arrives, he learns his younger brother Andre has joined a gang called the One Hundred and Tenth Street Gang. As he goes to check on him, Andre has fled home.
Peter encounters Sanders and Vasquez in the middle of a crime spree and has difficulty battling the two as Sanders runs fast and Vasquez can slice through anything including Peter's webbing. Peter gets knocked around before landing on a car. Osborn contacts Peter via his headset and tells him to keep an eye out for Sanders's speed boots and pay attention when they begin to become active. Peter tricks Sanders into running into a zipline and has him crash into Vasquez, tying the two of them up. Their weaponry begin to malfunction due to the close proximity and they are defeated. Before leaving, Peter notices the same symbol on their equipment as Butane's.
Lonnie finds the gang's hideout and demands Andre return home. He is stopped by the gang leader Big Ben Donovan who is well aware of Lonnie's fame as a football star. He refuses to let Andre leave, who came to them to begin with, forcing Lonnie to offer himself up in his place. Donovan happily accepts. Peter returns to Osborn to thank him for the assist and he decides to accept his help after all.

Trivia[]
- The title is a reference to the comic book storyline Identity Crisis, which saw Peter adopting four alternate superhero personas to clear Spider-Man's name after he is accused of murder.
- It's also a reference to The Spectacular Spider-Man having the exact same title and premise.
- The episode picks up immediately following the last episode.
- Peter admits to Norman that he is Spider-Man and begs him not to tell Aunt May, referencing a scene from Captain America: Civil War, when Peter did the same with Tony Stark. Peter is given a new suit like in the film.
- Nico warns Peter that Norman Osborne may be trying to take advantage of the little guy. This may be a reference to how in both Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter tells Tony that he's "just trying to look out for the little guy".
- Aunt May finds Ben's bowling shirt, which is a homage to Uncle Ben from the Amazing Spider-Man films, portrayed by Martin Sheen, who had bowling trophies.
- Peter finds a camera in one of the boxes, referencing his character from the comics and the live-action variants, portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, where both Peters had a job at the Daily Bugle.
- In Andrew's bedroom, there is a poster resembling the cover art for the Grand Theft Auto games above his bed.
- Speed Demon is voiced by Roger Craig Smith, who is best known for voicing another speedster character, Sonic the Hedgehog.
