Role in the film[]
The dwarfs are introduced when Snow White is fleeing the kingdom after learning that the evil queen is trying to kill her. The dwarfs return from their work and find the princess in their cottage and allow her to spend the night with them. The next morning, the dwarfs help Snow White clean the cottage and they sing, when Snow tries to convince Dopey to speak to the others. After Snow meets Jonathan, she brings him and his friends to the dwarf's cottage, where they celebrate wanting to take their kingdom back.
One day while the dwarfs are at work in the mines, Snow White is tricked into eating a poisoned apple, which sends her into a death sleep, by the evil queen disguised as an old hag. The dwarfs mourn their friend, but Snow is revived after Jonathan kisses the princess, reviving her. Now with Snow White saved, the dwarfs, Snow, Jonathan and the villagers team up to dethrone the queen. After the queen is killed, the kingdom celebrates as Snow White is named the new queen and marries Jonathan.
Trivia[]
- The dwarves are created using puppets and CGI to emphasize their features rather than live actors with dwarfism, as they are inspired by dwarves from Germanic folklore which are mythical creatures that take the physical appearance of little people, known as humanoids.
- Unlike the original version, Dopey speaks.
- They live for centuries, and can make the mines glow by first illuminating their hands and then touching the walls.
- They've been living together for 274 years in this version.
- Despite being the deuteragonists, they weren't prominently featured in the film's marketing.
