Shōgun is an American historical drama that premiered on February 27, 2024 on Hulu (as part of FX on Hulu) in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally. It is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell and was previously adapted into a 1980 miniseries.
Synopsis[]
The series follows English pilot John Blackthorne, who finds himself shipwrecked in Japan and must learn to acclimate to the culture, Lord Yoshii Toranaga, a powerful daimyo who must fight to protect his status, and Toda Mariko who must prove where her loyalties lie despite her family history.

Trivia[]
- While the first season is strictly based on the novel by James Clavell, the follow up seasons are original stories.
- Takehiro Hira and Anna Sawai also star in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters together. According to Hira, after wrapping Shōgun, the two immediately went to film their other show the very next day. They also previously appeared in the BBC drama Giri/Haji.
