Hernan "Shades" Alvarez is a Marvel Comics character and supervillain who appears in Luke Cage.
Shades was created by Archie Goodwin and George Tuska.
Background
He is a ruthless mob enforcer and hitman who is undyingly loyal to Mariah Dillard, and acts as her number one man and as Luke Cage's archnemesis. His history with Luke began when he found himself jailed at Seagate Prison with Luke when he was still known as Carl Lucas, and he beat him up there. He was originally one of Diamondback's henchmen who was placed with Cottonmouth until he began questioning Diamondback himself.
He is a master at hand-to-hand combat and an expert marksman.
