Shawn Adam Levy is a Canadian-American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor, who founded the production company 21 Laps Entertainment in 2005. For Disney, he directed the Touchstone Pictures film Real Steel, which was released in 2011. He served as a producer for the 2014 comedy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, the 2022 films Rosaline and Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again, and the 2023 films The Boogeyman and Crater. He also directed the 2001 Disney Channel Original Movie Jett Jackson: The Movie, the 2021 20th Century Studios film Free Guy, and episodes of The Famous Jett Jackson, So Weird, and In a Heartbeat. Additionally, he directed, co-wrote, and co-produced the 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool & Wolverine.
Levy was born in Montreal, Quebec. He graduated from Yale University in 1989 majoring in Performing Arts. He received a MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1994. Being his career in acting, Levy appeared films, such as Zombie Nightmare and Liberace: Behind the Music, and he guest-starred on TV shows, including 21 Jump Street, Beverly Hills, 90210, and 30 Rock. Eventually, he transitioned into directing and producing in the late 1990s while also making cameos in some of his projects.
Levy has directed several comedy films, such as Big Fat Liar, Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), Just Married, The Pink Panther, The Adam Project, and the Night at the Museum film trilogy. He also directed episodes of shows, including sitcoms like Last Man Standing, The Secret World of Alex Mack, The Journey of Allen Strange, Lassie, Animorphs, Birds of Prey, and Stranger Things.
He was also a producer for the Oscar-nominated film arrival. Other productions he worked on include I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, What Happens in Vegas, The Pink Panther 2, Why Him?, The Spectacular Now, and Love and Monsters.
