Sheldon George Wolfchild is a Lakota-American actor, director, producer, artist, and activist, who appeared in Disney's Squanto: A Warrior's Tale as Mooshawset and the Hollywood Pictures film The Scarlet Letter as Moskeegee.
Born in 1946, Wolfchild grew up on the Lower Sioux Indian Reservation in Morton, MN. The youngest of eight children, he is the child of professional Bantamweight boxer "Indian" Ernie Peters. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the Ray-Vogue School of Design in Chicago, Illinois from 1965 to 1969.
He was later drafted and served in the Vietnam War, being awarded the bronze medal. Returning home, he worked at the Walt Disney Studios in California as an artistic consultant, developed displays for the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and various Disney movie productions as well as participated in numerous art shows through the company.
In 1976, after attending the University of Hawaii, he became a featured actor on Sesame Street with his then wife, Buffy Saint-Marie, for four years. After their divorce, Wolfchild returned to Los Angeles where he affiliated with the American Indian Registry for Actors. He appeared in films, such as The Avenging, Dances with Wolves, Son of the Morning Star, Miracle in the Wilderness, 3 Ninjas Knuckle Up, 500 Nations, and Crazy Horse with fellow actors Michael Greyeyes, Irene Bedard, Wes Studi, and August Schellenberg. His television credits include L.A. Law, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Walker, Texas Ranger, and The Gale Whitman Show. In 2014, he produced and directed the documentary The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking the Domination Code.
