Shun Kazama is the deuteragonist in From Up on Poppy Hill and is the love interest of Umi Matsuzaki.

Early life[]
Shun Kazama was born to sailor Hiroshi Tachibana who was killed in an accident on the repatriation ship. Additionally, his other relatives were killed in the atomic bombing of Nagasaki and his mother died of complications while giving birth to him. Yūichirō Sawamura, a close friend of Hiroshi Yūichirō, registered him as his child to avoid leaving Shun as an orphan in the confused postwar years. Still, Yūichirō and his wife, Ryoko were unable to raise Shun, as they were expecting their own child Umi at the time. Shun was eventually given to a local couple, the Kazamas.
