Simple Samosa is an animated television series conceived and directed by Sanjiv Waeerkar and aired on Disney Channel and Disney Junior in India. It first premiered several episodes at once on May 14th, 2018 and initially aired exclusively on Disney Channel before airing both reruns and new episodes on Disney Junior as well.

The series was made available on the Indian version of Disney+ as one of its launch titles in 2020.

Plot[]

In the town of Chatpata Nagar live many different anthropomorphic Indian snack foods, including the prideful but heroic Samosa, the cautious and kind Dhokla, the more down-to-earth Jalebi, and the young and trusting Vada, who all play and go on various adventures together.

Characters[]

  • Simple Samosa - A samosa boy who is quite prideful and arrogant, constantly telling his friends exaggerated tales about himself and his feats. He is also heroic and will seize the day when trouble arrives in Chatpata Nagar.
  • Dhokla - A careful dhokla who is considered the "big brother" of the group. He is usually the first person to question Samosa's plans and their safety.
  • Jalebi - A jalebi girl, and the sanest member of Samosa's group who will call them out for their antics but still considers them friends.
  • Vada - Samosa's #1 fan, a vada who is also the youngest member of the group. He is quite hyperactive, and he has quick thinking. He is implied to be too young to tell the difference between fiction and reality, as he believes Samosa's exaggerated stories while Dhokla and Jalebi don't.

Trivia[]

  • Simple Samosa has two dubs for the four languages it is dubbed in (Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu), with the two sets of dubs having multiple differences in dialogue. For unknown reasons, the second set of dubs has completely replaced the first set in televised airings, and it is the one made available for the subsequent Disney+ release.

Reception[]

Simple Samosa has accumulated upwards of 25,000,000 viewers across India since its premiere.[1]
