The Singing Bullfrogs are characters featured in the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
These three bullfrogs, as their names suggest, are a trio of singing amphibians who appear in the "Going South" sequence in America Sings. They all wear identical hats throughout the first act and each of the three frogs are identical to each other.
Development[]
The singing bullfrogs were created for the now-defunct America Sings attraction at the Tomorrowland area at Disneyland, which opened on June 29, 1974 where they were placed into the "Going South" sequence. When America Sings closed on April 10, 1988 in order to retheme the attraction to Innoventions, the bullfrogs and the rest of the animatronics from America were moved to the Splash Mountain attraction at the Critter Country area at Disneyland where they were placed into separate areas while the Swamp Boys were placed into the finale sequence.
Due to the success of the Splash Mountain attraction at Disneyland, Splash Mountain was later constructed at Frontierland at Magic Kingdom and Critter Country Tokyo Disneyland respectively, still featuring the animatronic bullfrogs in the attraction.
As of 2020, Splash Mountain was announced for closure in order to remove all references to Song of the South due to controversy surrounding the film which the attraction is based on to make way for a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction. Therefore, it is currently unknown of what will replace the bullfrog animatronics in the reimagined version of the attraction, while the Oriental Land Company has not yet announced whether to retheme the Tokyo Disneyland version of Splash Mountain or not. The Magic Kingdom version of Splash Mountain permanently closed on January 23, 2023, followed by the California version closed on May 31 on that same year.
Appearances[]
America Sings[]
During the "Polly Wolly Doodle" sequence, the singing bullfrogs provided backing vocals with the Swamp Boys who sing along with each other, followed by a raccoon playing a harmonica just as the gator trio sang with. Soon as they vocalized with the Swamp Boys, the next song looped into "I Wish I Was a Single Girl Again" performed by a mother possum. They later appeared again during the "Down by the Riverside" sequence where singing along with a chorus of foxes and chickens just before the sequence looped into the attraction's second act.
Splash Mountain[]
In the Disneyland version of the attraction, the bullfrogs (whose animatronics are exactly the same ones from the former America Sings attraction) were seen during the "How Do You Do?" sequence where they were seen providing backing vocals and are seen next to some singing geese just before the vehicle passes by Br'er Frog who is relaxing on Br'er Gator.
In the Magic Kingdom version, three bullfrogs were seen singing next to a singing goose during the "How Do You Do?" sequence and two other bullfrogs were seen next to some turtles during the "Everybody's Got a Laughing Place" sequence.
In the Tokyo Disneyland version of the attraction, three bullfrogs are seen during the "Everybody's Got a Laughing Place" sequence in the area where geese are encountered just before passing through Br'er Rabbit happily hopping to find his Laughing Place. Three more are later encountered during the second part of the "Everybody's Got a Laughing Place" sequence just before passing through a scene where Br'er Fox captured Br'er Rabbit with a beehive.
