Sinister Strange (real name Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange) is a character who appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He is an alternate version of Doctor Strange, whose reality has been falling apart due to his use of the Darkhold.
Doctor Strange was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
Background[]
Stephen Strange grew up with a younger sister named Donna, but she lost her life when they were both kids. The siblings were playing on a frozen lake when she fell through and drowned. Following this travesty, Stephen vowed to save other people's lives and became a doctor in New York, where he met Christine Palmer, with whom he formed a relationship until she broke up with him because of his aragoncy. However, after a car accident years later, Stephen lost the ability in his hands to continue being a surgeon, and learnt of the Ancient One, who could teach him to use his hands for magic, which led him to join the Masters of the Mystic Arts. By 2017, he became the Sorcerer Supreme in his universe and protected the world, before Thanos caused half of the universe, including Strange, to be erased from the universe. When Strange returned to life, he learnt that Palmer survived the snap and marrying a man named Charlie. Strange attended the wedding, but was still not over Christine. He then found the Darkhold in hopes to find another Christine Palmer to be with, but to no avail. After dreamwalking from the darkhold, Strange gained a third eye on his forehead.
Personality[]
As his name suggests, Doctor Strange is portrayed as a much more evil version of the mainstream Doctor Strange and thanks to the darkhold's magic, he became consumed, which led him down a dark path into villainy. Strange did not hesitate to cause danger to his world, as long as he could travel to another world to find a variant of Christine, even if it meant causing an incursion and the lives of everybody on the planet. He also does not hesitate to try to kill his variant who visits him in hopes to return back to his own universe.
Role in the film[]
When Doctor Strange form earth-616 and Christine Palmer from Earth-838 find themselves in Sinister Strange's universe, they learn the world is collapsing upon itself due to an incursion Sinister Strange has caused. They find the New York Sanctum of this world, to which Strange enters only to find Sinister Strange questioning who has arrived. 616 Strange informs his alternate self who he is and with Sinister Strange doubting him, he asks to prove it. Sinister Strange soon believes his variant as 616 Stephen says that they had a sister named Donna who died when she fell through the ice when they were kids.
Sinister Strange asks his alternate self as to why he is here and learns he is trying to return to his own universe but might need the darkhold, to which Sinister Strange reveals he has possession of, but refuses to give it unless he is given Christine Palmer from his alternate self's universe. 616 Strange refuses and a magical fight breaks out between both Strange's. However, 616 Strange takes the upper hand and sends Sinister Strange to his demise by magically sending him out of a window. Sinister Strange is then impaled on one of the fence posts outside, which 838 Christine witnesses in horror as his third eye opens.
