- “Hey, I'm Skyler.”
- ―Skyler's catchphrase
Skyler is a recurring character in the Disney•Pixar animated series Monsters at Work. He is a male monster who works as a scarer at Fear Co., though he later switched to becoming a jokester at Monsters, Inc. following Johnny Worthington III's arrest.
Background[]
Personality[]
Skyler is fairly dim-witted, though laid-back. He has a tendency to speak in third person, often referring to himself by his name instead of usual self-introducing pronouns. He is also shown to cheer and shout at random accomplishments, particularly his own.
Appearances[]
Monsters at Work[]
Skyler first appears in the episode "Field of Screams" playing for Fear Co. at the softball match and Johnny Worthington III tells Tylor Tuskmon that after the latter turned down the job offer to be a scarer at Fear Co., he gave the position to Skyler. Soon though, Tylor accidentally knocks out Skyler, rendering him unable to play for the remainder of the game, so Johnny asks Tylor to fill in.
He later appears in "Descent into Fear", when Tylor starts working as a scarer at Fear Co. for the first time. Skyler introduces himself, although Tylor acknowledges that they have already met. Later, after Tylor had a brief confrontation with fellow scarer Joy (who was the company's top scarer), Skyler reveals that she had made him cry a week earlier. Later, Skyler and the other scarers root for Tylor to beat Joy as the top scarer, which he eventually succeeded in doing (albeit at the cost of scaring Ben, a human child that Tylor had known for quite some time).
In "Powerless", Skyler, along with Joy and Declan, are first shown guarding the scream energy receiving station underneath Fear Co., which Johnny Worthington was using to generate stolen laugh power from Monsters, Inc. and pass it off as his own company's scream energy. Skyler desperately asks Declan to use the bathroom, but Declan declines his request, stating that they have strict orders to guard the station. Skyler reluctantly accepts his response and tries to hold it in a little longer, but he ends up letting out a "number six" before apologizing. Luckily, Duncan P. Anderson (who had disguised himself as Declan after Tylor secretly knocked him unconscious) allows Skyler to use the bathroom, much to his relief, although he let out another fart before leaving. Unbeknownst to him, this was merely part of a distraction so that the MIFTers could use the newly rebuilt scream extractor to separate the scream energy from the laugh energy.
After Johnny's arrest, Skyler is later seen watching the broadcast of Tylor and Val Little entertaining Ben, and even comforts a heartfelt Chompy by patting him on the head. At the end of the episode, it is shown that he has become a jokester at Monsters, Inc. along with Chompy. Skyler happily exclaims his newfound jokester nature, and asks Mike Wazowski to pull his finger, which the latter declines, having already fallen for the trick twice. However, Smitty is briefly seen reaching for Skyler's finger (almost as if to pull it himself).
