When Dipper comes to believe that Old Man McGucket is the author of Journal 3, he, Mabel, Soos, Wendy and McGucket discover a secret society in Gravity Falls that erases people's memories of the supernatural.

- This episode makes an unusual connection with Rick and Morty. At the end of the episode when Stan opens up the portal, his personal items (a pen, a notebook and a coffee mug) get sucked in. The Rick and Morty episode "Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind" features a scene where the titular characters open up numerous portals. Out of one of them, falls the three items that Stan lost.
