"Souvenir Money" is the first segment of the sixtieth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Kiff.
Synopsis[]
Kiff and Barry have to keep a huge sum of money safe.
Plot[]
It is the last day of the school year at Table Town Middle School, so Miss Deer Teacher decides not to assign any schoolwork, instead inviting everyone to share their summer plans with the class. When Kiff mentions that she and Barry will be going on a road trip with Beryl and Martin to the Old Punctual geyser, Trevor asks if they can buy him a souvenir T-shirt from Old Punctual and gives them the nuts for his purchase. The rest of the class and Miss Deer Teacher follow suit with souvenir requests of their own, and Candle sends a message to the Table Town School group chat informing everyone that Kiff and Barry are accepting requests for souvenirs from Old Punctual. A long line of interested students and teachers soon forms outside the classroom.
After listing everyone's requests and collecting their payments, Kiff and Barry end up with a total of 500 nuts. As they are about to board a tram back home from school, the duo run into a drifter, who unsuccessfully tries to steal the money in Kiff's arms. Realizing the risk of carrying a huge pile of money out in the open, Kiff and Barry spend five nuts from the pile at the Okay Will Donation Center to buy a lock box for the money, figuring that they can make up the lost amount at the souvenir shop by haggling. They end up spending an additional ten nuts to buy a bigger lock box to store the first box in, then another two nuts to buy a keychain for their lock box keys.
On the way back home, Kiff, still paranoid about losing the money, decides to open the lock boxes to count the nuts inside, only to find that she has lost the keys. Kiff and Barry quickly spot the keys in a nearby sewer, and using gum and a stick, Kiff manages to pull out the keys through the sewer grate. However, the duo then discover that the lock box has disappeared from the spot where Barry set it down. Kiff and Barry turn to Jackie Pennidötter for help locating the box. After initially turning them down, Jackie, upon learning how much cash is inside the box, agrees to assist them in exchange for 10% of the money.
Rationalizing that lost items are always in the places people least expect them to be, Jackie goes digging in search of the box at the beach, despite Barry saying he has not been there since the previous summer. While Kiff and Barry watch over Jackie, a griffin flies over the beach, and the duo spot their box in the creature's mouth. Kiff and Barry follow the griffin all the way to a massive tree, where the griffin places the box in its nest among many other found objects. The duo climb the tree to recover the box, only to be met by Glarbin, who prevents them from doing so because it is illegal to disturb the griffin for the next 13 years while it molts. Kiff tries to instead communicate with the griffin directly, but it simply grabs her keys and returns to its slumber.
Dejected, Kiff and Barry head back downtown, where they are surprised to find Jackie holding a treasure chest and preparing to board one of Little Louis' private jets. Jackie shows them that she found a chest full of gold doubloons at the beach, but Kiff instead asks her why she never bothered to call them when she was supposed to be working on their case. Jackie says that she has decided to quit being a P.I. now that she is rich, an explanation that does not satisfy the duo at all. Stared down by a disgruntled Kiff and Barry, Jackie gives them each a doubloon for their troubles before taking off.
Kiff and Barry visit Sips Soda Fountain and order milkshakes to cheer themselves up. When they ask the waiter if the diner accepts doubloons for payment, he notes that he is an aspiring doubloon collector and informs them that each doubloon is actually worth 250 nuts. Relieved that they are no longer "embroiled in financial scandal", Kiff and Barry celebrate.
Anticipating that the souvenir shop may not accept doubloons, Kiff and Barry decide to do away with physical money altogether. Back at the Chatterley residence, the duo, having converted their doubloons to nuts, simply order the souvenirs online on Haggle4Less. Afterwards, they look out the window and see Old Punctual erupting in the distance.
