"Space Junkers" is the first segment of the forty-second episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on October 29, 2016 alongside "Help Us, Jet Retrograde!", and is the first segment of the twelfth episode in the second season.

Synopsis[]

Miles and Leo's scavenging trip turns into a mission to help a lost robot.

Plot[]

In his room, Miles scavenges through different types of space junk he collected. One of them he finds is his favorite piece of junk out of his collection. Miles says that it could be anything just as Leo calls, stating that it's time for space junk collecting. Miles hopes to find something as stellar as his favorite piece. Miles and M.E.R.C. then head to the bridge.

Once there, Miles is surprised to see Planet Crunkle, the biggest junkyard planet in the galaxy. A junkyard is where the TTA dumps all the junk they clean up from space, meaning you can find goodies everywhere. Phoebe and Loretta want to come, but they have a supply run on the Tethoscape. Phoebe will pick Miles, Leo, and M.E.R.C. up when they are done.

The Star Jetter then sets course for Crunkle. Miles sees a star sweeper, which goes through space and if they find junk that can be recycled, they drop it on the planet. Miles then sees a solar sail, and he, Leo, and M.E.R.C. decide to check it out.

They see the solar sail a beaut just as a crane takes it to the recycling center. There, junk is mashed up and melted, then used to make new things. The TTA made the recycling center automated, so Leo, Miles, and M.E.R.C. decide to scavenge some junk.

After more junk collecting, Miles sees something with a symbol Leo has never seen before. Leo and M.E.R.C. see more of the same object, and they decide to put the pieces together. Leo decides to power it on with a switch, and the structure reveals itself to be a robot. The robot wakes up, and gets introduced to Miles, Loretta, and M.E.R.C. The robot gathers his thoughts and reveals his name to be Hubie. He is told that he is on Crunkle, a junkyard planet. He is scared, leading to one of his arms falling off. Leo questions how Hubie got here. The thing is, Hubie was looking on his ship's starmap for a way home when a star sweeper (which he mistakes as a big metal creature) swallowed him and dropped him on the planet. When he sees another, he stresses over it, and he falls apart. Leo assumes that the star sweeper mistook Hubie's ship for space junk and brought him here.

Hubie eventually finds his ship, which is all broken. Leo can fix the ship, however, Hubie's starmap was knocked loose because it's gone. Hubie's planet is number 3, as planets on starmaps are not named, just numbered. The Callistos' maps have lots of numbered planets, and they have no way of knowing which one is Hubie's. Hubie begins to lose hope when M.E.R.C. and Miles decide to help him find his starmap. Hubie then gives everyone a big hug, with his arms falling off. Hubie then shows what the starmap looks like.

Hubie sees what he thinks is his starmap, but it is just more junk. Miles says that they can make it an adventure, like a scavenger hunt. This is the reason why Miles and Leo came to Crunkle; to look for junk on purpose. Hubie is told by Miles that he can find hidden treasure where he'd least expect it. Hubie hopes to find his starmap when he finally sees it. He grabs hold of it just as a crane catches it and takes it to the recycling center. Miles and M.E.R.C. give chase, and Leo notices it just as he finishes repairing Hubie's ship.

Hubie chases the starmap all the way through the conveyer belt, and retrieves it just as he heads into the place where the trash gets mashed up. Miles and M.E.R.C. rescue him. However, Hubie drops his starmap, but Leo retrieves it just before the trash gets mashed up.

Hubie then thanks Miles, Leo, and M.E.R.C. for helping him out. Miles says that doing so made this the most blastastic junk trip they've been on. Hubie realizes that on a planet full of junk something valuable could be found, friends. He then gives them a hug, leading to one of his arms falling out.

Phoebe then calls, and she and Loretta are back from their supply run and are entering Crunkle's orbit now. Hubie then activates his ship and its starmap. If Miles, Leo, and M.E.R.C. get out that way, they'll stop by and see Hubie. Hubie tells them that the next time they go searching for junk give them a call. Miles says that they will do so. Hubie's ship then leaves the planet. The ship computer says that Hubie is going in the wrong direction, and tells him to make a legal U-turn. Hubie does so while saying that he's on it like a comet.

Trivia[]

  • This episode reveals how junk gets collected from space and used to make new things.
  • It was mentioned in "Later, Multivator" that star sweepers are automated, and pick up junk by themselves.
  • The "Whoa!" from Miles when a crane takes the solar sail is actually the voice of Cullen McCarthy, the original voice of Miles in season one, marking the first time McCarthy's voice is heard after he got replaced by Justin Felbinger as the voice of Miles.
