"Space Race" is the second segment of the thirteenth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on May 8, 2015 alongside "Mama Merc".

Plot[]

Today is the Tomorrowland Pilot of the Future space race, and the winner will receive a blast-jet. Miles and M.E.R.C. are hoping that they win the race when their racing ship is ready. Once the rest of the Callistos arrive, Miles and M.E.R.C. show them the Photon Flyer. The Callistos are impressed by it, with Loretta stating that she will use the blast-jet if Miles and M.E.R.C. win, and Leo tells Miles that he is improving with the Solidizer. Stella announces that they have arrived at Planet Dardanus, the site of the Pilot of the Future space race.

Miles and M.E.R.C. then head across the hallway, where they make contact with Pipp, whose racer, the Hot Saucer, turns out great. Pipp and Miles say "may the best racer win" before both plan to see the other at the starting line. The Callistos then take the Star Jetter to planet Dardanus.

Afterwards, Gadfly's ship, the Scourge, also arrives, and Gadfly tells his goons that he is part of the space race because the goons signed him up with a different name, Flyspeck Sapien. Gadfly says that he does not need wings to fly once he wins the blast-jet. Gadfly then pretends to be a child so that he can enter. He then tests the Ram Jammer, his racer, to make sure its secret sonic blaster which knocks everyone out of its path works, and it does. Gadfly then disguises his goons to be his "parents".

After the Callistos motivate Miles and M.E.R.C. that they can win the race, Admirals Watson and Crick welcome everyone to the Tomorrowland space race. They then introduce the racers. First up is the Fling Shot, piloted by Blodger. The second is the Photon Flyer, piloted by Miles and M.E.R.C. The third is the Hot Saucer, piloted by Pipp Wimpley. Finally, the Ram Jammer shows up, and it is piloted by "Flyspeck Sapien". The course goes through two obstacles: Blaster Flats and Floating Canyon. Whoever crosses the finish line first will win the blast-jet. Before the race, Leo tells Miles that win or lose, he needs to make this a race that he and M.E.R.C. can be proud of.

The race begins, and all of the racers go through the hoops. Miles and M.E.R.C. soon see cryogeysers, which shut down any ship they hit. Miles tells M.E.R.C. to keep an eye on any. Meanwhile, Blodger thinks that he will win when Sapien passes by, and tells the Fling Shot to buzz off while activating the sonic blaster. This causes the Fling Shot to spiral out of control until it gets shuts down by the cryogeyser. Miles and M.E.R.C. are surprised to see this. Watson and Crick report that the Fling Shot is out of the race. Blodger says that he is okay, and his parents say that that is all that matters. The Callistos, especially Phoebe, believe that there is something familiar about the "parents".

Pipp then sees Sapien going after Miles, and as Sapien is about to activate the sonic blaster on the Photon Flyer, Pipp zooms by him, causing him to temporarily get stuck in between two cryogeysers. Pipp tells Miles about what was about to happen, and how it is against the rules. Miles thanks him before Sapien gets back in the race. He then uses his sonic blaster to block the path ahead, so M.E.R.C. finds a shortcut for them to go through. Frustrated, Sapien activates the sonic blaster on the Hot Saucer, causing it to crash, and Pipp's parents to be shocked. As Sapien is about to do the same to the Photon Flyer, Miles activates its brakes, causing the Ram Jammer to be stuck, as well.

Miles says that he and M.E.R.C. would have been out of the race if Pipp had not helped them, so they decide to free the Hot Saucer so that Pipp can get back in the race. Miles says that he and Pipp started the race together and will finish it together. Pipp then calls Miles a galactic friend. Loretta thinks Miles gave up an easy win, and Leo reminds her that he is making this a race he can be proud of.

As Sapien heads down the final stretch and thinks about how powerful the blast-jet is, Miles and Pipp go past him, and they agree to finish the race together. In the end, the Hot Saucer wins the race, with the Photon Flyer coming in second. Leo congratulates Miles, and Wimm and Kree Wimpley congratulate Pipp on his win. Miles and M.E.R.C. are not sad that they did not win. Admirals Watson and Crick introduce Pipp as Tomorrowland's next Pilot of the Future. After getting the blast-jet, Pipp says that he shares the win with Miles, since he would not be here without him, and tells Blodger that he will get it next time.

As Pipp activates the blast-jet, he zooms by the goons, who lose their hats. Phoebe then realizes that they are really Gadfly's holo-goons. Calling them "Mr. and Mrs. Sapien", Phoebe questions if they are going anywhere when they place their hands through their hoops, deactivating themselves. Phoebe then calls the SpaceGuard, informing them that she knows exactly where Gadfly is. Gadfly then heads away from the SpaceGuard ship. Meanwhile, Miles and Pipp decide to go on another race, with Miles using his Blastboard and Pipp using the blast-jet.

Trivia[]

  • During the introduction of the Tomorrowland Pilot of the Future space race, Crick calls himself and Watson the "heads" of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority because they have two heads. This is false, as in "Connect and Protect", Commander Copernicus is the head of the TTA.
  • Morals:
    • There are some things that are more important than winning.
    • If someone is stuck, it is always a wise choice to help that person, even if you know you are going to lose.
