Amy Pascal confirmed in an interview with Fandango that a new trilogy set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in development with Holland reprising his role, in an extended deal with Marvel Studios.[6] By February 2023, Kevin Feige mentioned the script was being worked on at the time as the story was starting to be written.[7] However, development of the film had been paused due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and that the film would resume development after the strike was resolved.[2]
On January 20, 2024, it was reported that Marvel Studios were actively searching for a director, while Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers returned to write the screenplay.[8]Destin Daniel Cretton was hired as director, with filming scheduled to begin early 2025.[9] However, Tom Holland confirmed in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that filming would begin in summer 2025.[10]
