Spider-Man 4 is a placeholder title for an upcoming American superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. It was written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film is a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. It is expected to be part of Phase Six or Seven of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.[1]

On November 29, 2021, in an interview with Fandango, Amy Pascal confirmed that a new trilogy set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in development with Holland reprising his role, in an extended deal with Marvel Studios.[1]
On October 5, 2022, Jacob Batalon revealed he was unsure if he would return as Ned Leeds, but expressed his hopes to do so.[3]
On February 14, 2023, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige mentioned that the script was being worked on at the time as the story was starting to be written.[4]
On May 31, 2023, in an interview with Variety, Amy Pascal revealed that the development of the film had been paused due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and that the film would resume development after the strike was resolved, as well as Zendaya reprising her role as Spider-Man's love interest, Michelle Jones.[5]
On January 20, 2024, it was reported that Marvel Studios were actively searching for a director, while Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers returned to write the screenplay.[6]

- This will be the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to become a tetralogy; first being the Thor series with Thor: Love and Thunder and second being the Captain America series, with Captain America: Brave New World.
- This will be the first Spider-Man movie in history to be the fourth instalment in its respective series.
- Vincent D'Onofrio hopes to appear in this movie as the villain Kingpin.[7]
- On May 17, 2022, Tom Holland was asked if he would return as Spider-Man and he replied with "Maybe one day" with a smirk, hinting he had signed a new contract.[8]
- The return of Ned Leeds seems unlikely but Jacob Batalon expressed his hopes to reprise the role for the film.[3]
- The script was in early stages of being written in February 2023.[4]
- Zendaya returns as MJ Watson, Spider-Man's love interest, strongly implying she has or will remember her previous relationship with Peter, especially since Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with MJ having hints of recognition. However, it is currently unknown if Jacob Batalon will return as Ned Leeds as only Zendaya has been confirmed to reprise her role.
- Amy Pascal implied that two more sequels were in development or at least confirmed to happen, following this movie, when asked about Miles Morales' live-action debut.[9]
- It was revealed on February 16, 2024 that the script was being written and that Marvel plans to release the film before Avengers 5.[10]
