The Spruce Moose is a huge six engine seaplane that was initially never flown after its construction. It appears in the TaleSpin episode "My Fair Baloo".
Background[]
Measuring four-hundred feet and in the shape of a moose's head, this huge mammoth airplane was an aviators' dream because it was never flown at the onset of the episode. Because this plane was built so big, pilots could not fly it out of the cliffs. Converted into a nightclub, the Spruce Moose becomes a famous dining center in Cape Suzette, attracting upper-class customers with its luxurious setting and cuisine.
It takes flight for the first time when it is being hijacked by Owl Capone and his gang during a Businessman's Ball. Despite the belief of it being incapable of getting through the cliffs, the Spruce Moose successfully passes through the cliffs and makes it air borne. Baloo attempts to hijack back the plane by tampering with the control lines beneath the cockpit, but instead ends up messing up the cables and destroying the steering. However, he manages to successfully land the plane safely on a deserted island.
Trivia[]
- The Spruce Moose is probably a reference to the "Spruce Goose", a prototype heavy transport seaplane designed and built by the Hughes Aircraft company.
