The StarSpeeder 3000 is an omnibus-like transport/starfighter used in the attraction Star Tours, which is found at four Disney theme parks around the world.
In Star Tours[]
In the attraction, riders are taken on a StarSpeeder 3000, piloted by an inexperienced rookie droid named Rex, that is intended to travel to the Forest Moon of Endor. After accidentally taking a detour through the Star Tours spaceport's maintenance bay, Rex accidentally overshoots the StarSpeeder's lightspeed jump and passes the Endor moon, sending the StarSpeeder into a field of comets, and eventually inside of a giant comet.
After escaping the comet, the StarSpeeder is caught in the tractor beam of an Imperial Star Destroyer, but is able to escape by "easing off on the main thruster," under the advice of a Rebel X-wing pilot. Rex then pilots the StarSpeeder through dogfights between X-wings and TIE fighters, and is shot down by a TIE, plummeting toward a Death Star. Luckily, R2-D2, the StarSpeeder's navigation and astromech droid, repairs the ship's stabilizer and levels the StarSpeeder out, finding itself among a squadron of X-wings, and then following Red Leader down the Death Star Trench, battling more TIEs flying head-on towards the ship. Red Leader successfully reaches the end of the trench and fires proton torpedoes into the Death Star's thermal exhaust port, destroying the Death Star altogether, echoing the climax of the first Star Wars film.
Rex exclaims, "We did it!" and Red Squadron immediately escapes the exploding space station by jumping into lightspeed, with the StarSpeeder doing the same soon after. The StarSpeeder comes out of lightspeed at the Star Tours spaceport, where other StarSpeeders are seen taking off, taxiing, or parked outside. Our StarSpeeder continues into the spaceport building to land without any time to slow down. Just as the StarSpeeder is about to hit a moving fuel tank, Rex finds the brakes and stops just short of it.
In Star Wars: Legends continuity[]
Star Tours is a fictional travel agency in the Star Wars universe. The StarSpeeder 3000 is not the only craft they use, but their fleet is comprised of 40 of them (in reality, most of them). Even through the agency calls them state-of-the-art, these have to go under constant maintenance (as seen in the queue on the spot where the Mighty Microscope of Adventure Thru Inner Space was). Like its predecessor, the cabin can hold up to 40 people and the RX droid pilot. On the access hole on top, an Astromech unit droid can be placed like most spacecraft.
Once the Star Tours company went out of business in the Star Wars universe, most of the StarSpeeder 3000s were scrapped except for a handful of them.
