Star (displayed as ST★R) is a soon-to-be-defunct international brand on Disney+ used for streaming and distinguishing the more mature content on the service, mainly for media released through Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, ABC Signature, Freeform, 20th Television, 20th Television Animation, FX Networks, and Touchstone Television. In Latin America, the brand has its own separate service titled Star+ until being discontinued in July 2024.
The Star brand will retire on Disney+ in 2026 and replaced with Hulu internationally, but will continue as a television channel in certain countries.
As of December 2022, Star is not available on Disney+ in the United States, where Hulu serves as a replacement.
Trivia[]
- In some Latin American territories, content from A&E Networks was already part of the line-up since 2021, unlike other countries, such as the United States, where A&E's launch of the service was delayed until the beginning of 2023, as the company signed a prior deal with Peacock in February 2020, nor outside those regions after Disney was required to sell their stake internationally to allow the 21st Century Fox purchase to go forward in November 2018.
- Due to the pre-existing Star Channel (Greece) and Star TV (Türkiye) brands in the respective countries, the section is instead labelled "More Entertainment".
- Due to the pre-existing Hulu Japan, the Star brand on Disney+ was retained for the Japanese market.
