Andor represents a detailed view on how the Galactic Empire's government operates and the everyday consequences of its actions upon its citizens. Beginning five years before the events of Rogue One and A New Hope, the series employs an ensemble cast of characters to demonstrate how a Rebel Alliance forms in opposition to the Galactic Empire. Central to the cast is the eponymous Cassian Andor, a thief who becomes a revolutionary and eventually joins the Rebellion.
In February 2018, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that a few Star Wars live-action series were in development for Disney's streaming service. The series was officially announced by Bob Iger during Disney's Fiscal Full Year and Q4 2018 Earnings Results on November 8, 2018. [1]
On November 30, it was reported that executive producer Stephen Schiff was tapped to serve as showrunner while Moana writer Jared Bush was revealed to have originated the project by writing a pilot script and a series bible.[2]
On October 15, 2019, co-writer Tony Gilroy would be writing for the series in addition to directing the shows.[3]
On December 3, 2020, Diego Luna confirmed that the series had started filming in London.[4]
On June 4, 2021, Deadline reported that Robert Emms joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role, also that the series is due to wrap filming this summer.
On February 6, 2022, Stellan Skarsgård revealed that the second season begins filming in the fall of 2022.[6]
On February 16, 2022, it was reported that Nicholas Britell would compose the score for the series.[7]

Andor is the first Star Wars media in which the curse word "s**t" is spoken on-screen, and was also nearly the first to feature an f-bomb. Maarva Andor's recorded speech in the Season 1 finale originally ended with the line "f**k the Empire," which was changed to "fight the Empire" for the final product after pushback from Disney. If one looks closely, she still mouths the original line.
It is revealed that Cassian and Ruescott Melshi met in an imperial prison.
An episode focusing on K-2SO's introduction was removed because it was deemed expensive.
