Trivia[]
- This short was explicitly made to circumvent the expiration of the copyright for the Steamboat Willie incarnation of Mickey in 2024 in order for it to keep out of public domain.
- Pluto is the only main character absent from this special.
- The short is unlisted with the rest of the series, but is instead given a separate entry on Disney+.
- The opening title card with a shot of Mickey's head serves as a reference to both the original shorts intro from the early 1930s and the rarely seen opening intro for the original series.[1]
- At the beginning of the short, Mickey is seen with a box of memorabilia containing the following:
- The sorcerer's hat from Fantasia
- His bandleader uniform from The Band Concert
- The 1890s boater hat from The Nifty Nineties
- His top hat from Mickey's Delayed Date
- An old Mickey Mouse doll from the 1930s.
- Mickey says he wore contact lenses in order to do the Fred Moore redesign of Mickey, which was first seen in "The Pointer".
- When Mickey starts to whistle as a beat for the Mickey clone to dance along to, he does one of the same dances Mickey did in Mickey's Follies when dancing to "Minnie's Yoo Hoo".
- The bus stop is designed in a similar way to the Main Street, U.S.A. stop on the Disneyland Railroad.
- A penguin in the same scene resembles the ones from Mary Poppins.
- One scene features the El CapiTOON theater, referencing the Disneyland attraction Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, which, in turn, is a pun on the real life El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, where premieres of many Disney films take place in which Disney owns the theater.
- Timon, Pumbaa and Simba figurines appear on a shelf in an apartment.
- When the Mickey clones enter the dance studio, the skeletons of the ballet dancers pop out and do the choreography from The Skeleton Dance.
- A113 appears as the room number of the operating room.
- Dumbo and Timothy Q. Mouse make a cameo appearance when the Mickey clones recreate a scene from the "Pink Elephants on Parade" sequence.
- Several references to "Steamboat Willie" occur throughout the cartoon:
- The "Turkey in the Straw" scene is parodied, with Goofy, Donald and Pete serving the roles of the cow, duck and cat in the original cartoon respectively.
- A Mickey uses a pressure valve like a ship wheel, just like the start of the short.
- Mickey's dance is much identical to the one he does when listening to the goat play music.
- The musical instrument store is called "Make Mine Music Shop". The exterior of the store resembles the building seen in the opening of the film.
- A Hidden Mickey appears in the "Make Mine Music" shop, consisting of one large vinyl record and two smaller records.
- Mickey and his friends recreate the opening sequence from the Mickey Mouse Club.
- When putting the clones back in the film reel, Mickey makes a passing reference to the Disney Vault.
- Each Mickey variation uses their trademark poses and signature design from an assortment of different cartoons (in order of appearance):
- Lonesome Ghosts
- The Band Concert
- Two-Gun Mickey
- Magician Mickey
- "Mickey and the Beanstalk" from Fun and Fancy Free
- Fantasia
- Thru the Mirror
- Clock Cleaners
- The Nash Rambler commercials
- Plane Crazy
- The Nifty Nineties
- Mickey's Birthday Party
- The Prince and the Pauper
- The end credits feature unused storyboards with the Mickey's causing mischief and ends with the gang watching Steamboat Willie, all laughing.
- As of now, following this series finale, the Mickey Mouse Funhouse series is the only Mickey Mouse series airing new episodes, with a revival of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in the works.
- Near the end of the episode, Minnie Mouse makes a statement to Mickey saying, "The more Mickey, the more wonderful the world.", which, of course, is a reference to the title series.
