Stella is a minor character in Disney's 2009 animated feature film, The Princess and the Frog. She is Charlotte's pet bloodhound given to her by her father Eli "Big Daddy" La Bouff.
Role in the film[]
Stella is an energetic bloodhound who is first seen at the beginning of the film, given to Charlotte as a puppy from her father, Eli "Big Daddy" La Bouff. Years later, she's seen at the La Bouff masquerade ball in a Roman Centurion costume, climbing onto Tiana's beignet table begging for some beignets. Tiana relents, but gives only one to Stella.
After Tiana and Naveen are transformed into frogs (by a curse from the evil Dr. Facilier) they fall into the party and land in a drum set, the drummer tries to catch them and cheers up the party, Tiana and Naveen fly away and fall into Charlotte's dress, she tries to scratch her back, falls and looks at the frogs which makes her scream in terror (without knowing that they are her best friend and the prince she wants to marry), Big Daddy realizes what is happening and calls Stella (who was eating the rest of Tiana’s beignets that fell on the ground when Tiana accidentally crashed into the table during her confrontation with the Fenner Brothers). He orders her to sic the fleeing frogs, resulting in a chaotic chase through the masquerade ball and across a dining table, leading to a huge net where she crashes into a couple wearing a pirate costume and a mermaid costume causing her to collect pieces of their costumes.
Upon reaching the end of the table Tiana and Naveen get tangled up with some balloons and use them to escape while Tiana tries to tell Stella to stop and tells her who she is, Stella is surprised by this and exclaims, "Tiana?!", much to Tiana's shock. Stella falls on the cart carrying the cake and it flies off and falls on top of the Fenner Brothers. Tiana is surprised to see that she heard Stella speak and begins to realize that she acquired the ability to speak with animals by becoming a frog.

Trivia[]
- At the beginning of the movie, Charlotte refers to Stella as a 'he'. It's presumed she was corrected off-screen.
- Stella is probably named after the character Stella from A Streetcar Named Desire, something supported by the fact that Big Daddy calls for her by shouting, "Hey, STELLA!!!" like Stanley Kowalski does. Interestingly enough, John Goodman played the Steetcar character Harold Mitchell in the 1995 TV Version.
- Stella's only spoken line in the film is when she exclaims, "Tiana?!"
