Stella is a 1990 drama film directed by John Erman and starring Bette Midler, John Goodman, Trini Alvarado, Stephen Collins, and Marsha Mason. It is based on the 1923 novel Stella Dallas by Olive Higgins Prouty.
Synopsis[]
Follows the story of Stella Claire a single mom who happily raises her daughter Jenny. As Jenny grows older, Stella sacrifices her own happiness for the well-being of her daughter.

Trivia[]
- This is actually the third film adaptation of the Stella Dallas novel, but the only one that doesn't use the full name due to changing the character's last name to Claire. All three films were produced by the Samuel Goldwyn Company, but this is the only film adaptation that was co-produced by Disney through their Touchstone Pictures label.
- John Candy was considered for the role of Ed Munn, but turned it down when Bette Midler insisted that he do a screen test.
