"Step-Ladder to Heaven" is the first segment of the seventh episode of The Shnookums and Meat Funny Cartoon Show.
Synopsis[]
Shnookums and Meat end up getting hit by a truck and end up in the afterlife. There, they face a tough interviewer who will decide if they will be sent to Heaven or the "Hot Place" (Heck).
Plot[]
Shnookums and Meat are seen running in the house after Shnookums has taken Meat's bone. While outside, Shnookums throws the bone in the middle of the street and grabs it. Meat grabs him, but before he can do anything, Shnookums and Meat are hit by a moving truck, resulting in them floating into the clouds and ending up in the afterlife, where they see a few other animals who have also died and are entering heaven. However, when Shnookums and Meat try to get in, they are instead told to go to the interview room to see the supervisor.
While in the waiting room, Shnookums and Meat see a dog begging to get into heaven, claiming to have been a good boy, but his pleading falls on deaf ears as one of the angels throws him into what looks like a laundry chute but is really the entrance to "The Hot Place", where they are called in to meet the supervisor, who reveals that Shnookums and Meat has done bad things while alive, so he has no choice but to send them to The Hot Place. While Shnookums and Meat try to defend themselves with proof that they did good things (but they can't think of anything), the Supervisor shows a few flashbacks of them. The first one shows them as babies. Meat took Shnookums' bottle, but Shnookums retaliated by stretching the bottle and flinging it into Meat's face, causing Meat to shape Shnookums into a ball and roll him like a bowling ball. Upon seeing this, Shnookums says they were young and didn't know any better, so the Supervisor shows another clip.
This clip shows them as young men on their first blind date to the drive-in; however, to their horror, their dates turned out to be a tall ugly female cat and a short ugly female dog. At the drive-in, Shnookums and Meat tricked the girls into getting them snacks as they drove off, leaving them behind as they drove into the screen. After seeing what terrible people they were, Shnookums and Meat try to defend themselves again, stating that they were only adults and have changed, but upon seeing what they did last year, the Supervisor has no choice but to send Shnookums and Meat to The Hot Place. They cry and plead for him to give them a chance (but the Supervisor refuses to listen), but when they spot two very attractive devil women waving at them, Shnookums and Meat decide to take their chances and go to the Hot Place.
As luck would have it, an angel arrives to reveal to the supervisor that Shnookums and Meat are not actually dead, just knocked-out. Because of this news, the Supervisor allows them to return to earth and continue living, despite the fact that Shnookums and Meat want to go to the Hot Place. After freeing themselves from the Supervisor's grip, Shnookums and Meat land in the hot spot and encounter the two devil women from before, but to their horror, they learn that the devil women are actually the tall ugly female cat and a short ugly female dog.
With that, Shnookums and Meat escape the hot place and return to earth, where they continue chasing the bone, as they are once again hit by the trunk.
Trivia[]
- Clips from "Kung Fu Kitty", "I.Q. You Too!", "Something Fishy", "Night of the Living Shnookums" and "Jingle Bells, Something Smells" are featured in this show. "Kung Fu Kitty" and "Jingle Bells, Something Smells" were the next episodes on the production schedule, and the clips for them look rougher than the others (because the episode was presumably still being finished). The episodes aired the following week after the clips were featured here. One of the rare instances where a clip for an episode appeared on a clip-show before the actual episode had even aired!
- The title may be a reference to the Led Zeppelin song "Stairway to Heaven".
