It was given to him when Lilo decided to let Stitch become captain of the B.R.B. 9000. It has Kū Tiki, the god of strength, attached to it. Lilo then requests Stitch to never take it off, which he promises.
Throughout the film, Stitch held the necklace with him, and is shown to have a strong attachment to it. During his first fight with Leroy, he grabbed at Stitch's necklace, but the latter swiped Leroy's hand away.
When Leroy tried to fool Lilo and Reuben into thinking he was Stitch, Lilo pointed out that he was an impostor because he wasn't wearing the necklace she had given to Stitch.
At the end of the movie, with the defeat of Leroy, his clones, and Dr. Hämsterviel, the necklace wasn't seen on Stitch when he decided to stay on Earth with Lilo as part of her ʻohana, suggesting he took it off since he is living with Lilo again.
In the Stitch! anime's third season (~Best Friends Forever~), Stitch reunites with a fully grown Lilo. When she goes off to college, they planned to meet at the beach. However, unknown to Stitch, Nani was in labor, which caused Lilo to be late. Thinking she forgot about him, Stitch leaves his tiki necklace on the beach before flying away in his ship. By the time Lilo arrives, Stitch had already left and she cries in grief when she finds his necklace. In the end, Lilo gives Stitch his necklace back before leaving.
- Lilo revealed that she kept the tiki necklace in a sock drawer for three years.
- According to Lilo, the tiki is named Kū, "god of strength". However, in Hawaiian mythology, Kū has a few meanings, and none which relate to strength are: "forest and rain", "husbandry", "fishing", "war", and "sorcery".
- Although referred to as a necklace, it more resembles a dog collar than it does a necklace, with the tiki replacing a tag. This could be considered partly befitting, as Stitch was originally adopted as a dog.
- However, there is a type of close-fitting necklace called a choker.
