Ludwig Von Drake has a cold and lends Mickey the Smarty Hat to help fix the roadsters. When Commander Heist tries to steal Von Drake's Smarty Hat as part of a plot to make all of the hot dogs in Hot Dog Hills disappear with his Sonic Hot Dog Eliminator and target the secret recipe for them, Heist's cat Lazlo gets in the way and gets the Smarty Hat on him while planning to do the criminal action for himself. Now Commander Heist must work with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy to get the Smarty Hat off of Lazlo.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy working on their Roadster, but each has problems nobody knows how to solve. Mickey goes to see Ludwig Von Drake for assistance, but the scientist has a cold, so he offers Mickey the Smarty Hat. Mickey uses the Smarty Hat to fix his, Donald's, and Goofy's Roadsters. Unbeknownst to them, Heist and Lazlo have infiltrated the Roadster Garage and want to steal the Smarty Hat so that Heist can build a machine that will eliminate every hot dog in Hog Dog Hills. Heist makes his move and steals the Smarty Hat, but trips and it falls on Lazlo. Lazlo becomes a genius and can now talk and now schemes to execute Heist's plan all by himself, before stealing Heist's blueprint and escaping.
Mickey, Donald, and Goofy confront Heist, who confesses the plan after Goofy bribes him with a chocolate bar. Heist offers his assistance to stop Lazlo as he knows where Lazlo is going, and the trio agrees, but Donald correctly remains skeptical of the commander's underlying motives. The group heads to the center of Hot Dog Hills, but are too late as Lazlo has finished building Heist's Sonic Hot Dog Eliminator and eliminated every single hot dog in Hot Dog Hills before escaping. Heist figures out that Lazlo is next heading to Hot Dog Hills National Bank, the location of the original Hot Diggity Dog recipe.
The group heads to the bank, but Lazlo has already obtained the recipe. Heist reveals that he originally planned to steal the recipe, and a battle ensues to get the recipe. Lazlo gets the recipe back and attempts to escape on a motorcycle, but Mickey distracts Lazlo with Pluto's ball. Lazlo drops the Smarty Hat and the recipe to play with it. Lazlo attempts to steal the recipe again, but accidentally steals Goofy's underwear instead. Heist and Lazlo are then promptly arrested. Goofy, Mickey, and Donald decide to go to the diner to celebrate their victory. The episode ends with Lazlo and Heist being served hot dogs in prison at night, much to Heist's chagrin.

As Mickey, Donald, and Goofy are chasing after Commander Heist, Mickey is not wearing his hat. But after Lazlo becomes smart, Mickey is seen wearing his hat. But is back to not wearing it when he, Donald, and Goofy approach to Heist.
Whenever the Smarty Hat’s name is mentioned in the subtitles, they lowercase the term, “smarty hat”.
The theme song for this episode still shows the old Mickey and the Roadster Racers logo, rather than the updated one.
