"Sugar Rush" is the fifty-eighth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Elena of Avalor. It premiered on October 18, 2019, and is the ninth episode in the third season.
Plot[]
Elena is busier than ever now that Esteban is no longer Chancellor and his duties have passed to her. She can't even make time for her weekly card game with her grandmother, to the latter's chagrin. The prime important one is helping Isabel build the Hydro-Gandola, a gandola system that is powered by Avalor's waterfalls, for King Joaquin's visit the following day. During dinner, Elena and Isabel continue to talk about the Hydro-Gandola until Luisa scares them out of what they're doing, telling them that this is family time. She then talks about La Vida Dulce, a chocolate shop her grandparents owned and ran, and her family spent their time together working in the shop. She thinks it would be a good idea to have something to do with her granddaughters, and Francisco suggests she reopen La Vida Dulce, especially since it's been closed for years. When Armando points out that Elena's gonna be busy the next day, Luisa insists the girls spend the day at La Vida Dulce. Elena and Isabel agree to do so, but they'd been so busy talking about the Hydro-Gandola that they don't really know what their grandmother was talking about.
The next day, Luisa opens her grandparents' shop. She then shows Elena, Isabel, and Flo how to make chocolates. But just as they're about to make honey cakes from nut clusters, Luisa realizes that she forgot the hazelnuts, so she leaves to go get them and leaves her granddaughters to make another batch. Elena and Isabel start making chocolate themselves. Unfortunately, Armando shows up to inform them that King Joaquin and Princess Caterina have arrived. Elena tells Armando to show them the gandola, so she and Isabel can make more chocolates. When Isabel points out that it took all morning to make one batch, Elena uses her magic to speed up the chocolate making process. Unfortunately, she's rushing around so much that she doesn't even notice that her magic has kicked in, and the anxiety-induced magic gets into the chocolates. Elena leaves her sister and grandmother while she goes back to the castle to talk to Joaquin and Cat, but she has no idea how to get this done, and her magic kicks in. Realizing she needs Isabel, she gives Joaquin and Cat the chocolate she made and goes back to La Vida Dulce. To Luisa's dismay, both her granddaughters leave to the castle only to find that everyone is not only running around quickly but also talking fast and their voices sound like chipmunks, causing Elena to get nervous and her magic to kick in. Even after she calms down, everyone is still running all over the place. Elena summons Zuzo and tells them what's happening, and when she tells him that she was in a hurry while making the chocolates, he says that her anxiety-induced magic got into the chocolates, and now everyone who ate them is under the spell. Elena and Isabel go back to tell Luisa what happened only to find she's gone and closed the shop because there's no family chocolate shop without the family, and they feel remorseful because their grandmother wanted to reopen this shop to spend more time with them and they left her by herself.
When they find her in Castillo Park, Elena and Isabel apologize to Luisa, and she apologizes for not thinking about Elena having a kingdom to run, especially now that Esteban is gone. When the family reconciles, Elena and Isabel finally tell their grandmother what's going on. Luisa helps Elena make chocolates that have magic activated by Elena's calmness as an antidote to the ones she created earlier due to her anxiety. Elena gives the new chocolates to everyone and the spell is broken. Elena tells Joaquin what happened, and he confesses that he doesn't know the first thing about Hydro-Gandolas, which is why he brought his daughter with him. Elena asks Isabel and Cat to be the supervisors, which she says will clear up her schedule for a very important appointment: her weekly card game with Luisa. They're playing their card game on the Hydro-Gandola, and Elena says it turned out great. Isabel thanks Elena, but says that it's supposed to go faster, but Elena says that there's no rush as everyone can have more time to enjoy the view and the company.
