"Summer's Car Trouble" is the second segment of the forty-third episode of the 2018 version of Muppet Babies. It premiered on July 23, 2021.
Synopsis[]
Summer brings a toy car she made with her grandfather to show-and-tell, but becomes embarrassed when she finds Gonzo’s show and tell to be a lot more fancier. When the gang finds the toy car hidden away, Summer tries to hide the fact that it’s hers.
Plot[]
The episode starts with Summer arriving in the playroom, holding what appears to be a toy car made from a tin can, which she has made with her grandpa for show-and-tell. While Ms Nanny goes to get the snacks ready, Summer takes her toy for a test run. She winds it up and lets it zoom across the floor, which then bumps into Gonzo’s car, which is green and pickle-scented.
After seeing Gonzo’s car, Summer becomes a bit embarrassed about her own toy and doesn’t want to show it to anyone. So instead, she hides it under the couch. Afterwards, she sees what everyone else has brought/made for show-and-tell. When they ask Summer what she brought, she lies by saying she left her toy at home. Fozzie offers to share his block tower, which then falls over.
When picking up the blocks, Fozzie sees Summer’s car underneath the couch, and no one knows who it belongs to. Piggy then suggests they find out who owns it and give it back, calling on the one detective to help them out: Summer Penguin P. I.
First, they go to ask Mr Statler and Mr Waldorf, who are building a birdhouse. However, they claim that it’s not theirs. Next, the gang heads to Muppet Lab to ask Bunsen and Beaker. While they also say that the car isn’t theirs either, they do have an invention to help solve their problem: the Lost-and-Found-inator, a machine that can reveal the owner of any item. Summer gets worried about this, so to distract everyone, she turns on the Boogie-Bot Robot.
However, when nobody is looking, the car goes through the machine and reveals that it belongs to Summer, which starts to worry her. So she instead places Bunsen’s test tubes into the machine, thus revealing Bunsen on the monitor. By the time the others turn off the robot, they go check the Lost-and-Found-inator, but become confused when they find Bunsen on the screen.
Finally, they all go to talk to Rizzo, who has a secret toy vault to keep his kid brother out. Fozzie accidentally sets off a trap, which activates a bunch of Tickle lasers. But they manage to reach Rizzo, but even he denies that the toy belongs to him. Summer then asks Rizzo to turn off the lasers, which he’s happy to oblige, but the big problem is that the shut-off button is on the other side of the room. With none of them being small enough to fit through the lasers, they will end up missing show-and-tell. Summer then gets an idea. Just like before, she winds up the toy car, making it zoom across the room, going up the ramp (a checkerboard) and hitting the button, turning the lasers off.
The gang is now back in the playroom and ask Summer how she knew what would make the car go. Summer shamefully admits that the car is actually hers, which shocks everyone. She then goes on to say she was afraid to tell them the truth because she was embarrassed when she saw how much bigger, and fancier Gonzo’s car was compared to hers. But Piggy and her friends tell her that as long as the car is special to her, that’s all that matters, not how big or fancy it is. With that, Summer feels proud of her toy, just the way it is.
At show-and-tell, Summer presents her toy car that she made, and everyone is impressed. Rizzo is about to present his favorite toy, but finds his kid brother, Ricky, already has his hands on it.
Trivia[]
- Moral: It doesn’t matter how big or fancy something is, just so long as it’s special to you.
- The picture of Summer that appears on the monitor comes from the episode Sparkly Star Switcheroo.
