"Summer of La Hamaca" is the first segment of the sixteenth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Primos.

Synopsis[]

Tater and the primos are stalked by an evil hammock.

Plot[]

Tater walks into the backyard and discovers a hammock that seemed to spontaneously appear. As she and the primos become enticed to lay in it, as the indoor AC is down, Pop arrives and warns them against sleeping in it. He claims that doing so will result in one's dream being sapped away, completely convincing Tater, and adds that the last time he slept in a hammock, Hacienda Hills was part of Mexico and when he woke up was now part of the US. While Tater decides to focus on her final form, the other primos look for things to distract themselves. However, Lita becomes the first victim as she lies in the hammock and supposedly becomes absorbed by it.

Later the other primos, including Baby Bud, all start to become drawn to the hammock which quietly becomes much more anthropomorphic. Pop goes inside to make juice to beat it, while the primos quickly become scared by its power. Lucita, Scooter, Gordita, and Nachito tell Tater that they are scared of the hammock as it has now come down to them. Annoyed, Tater draws a line in the ground and tells them to simply stay away from the hammock while she continues working. This doesn't last long as Lucita also gets drawn to the hammock while Tater is planking and when she rushes up to grab her discovers that all the primos have the "mark of the hamaca" on their faces.

The primos attempt to get Tater to join them in the hammock, only for Pop to arrive to save her. The two try to get the primos to leave, but they both end up getting sucked into the hammock. They both succumb to the relaxing nature of the hammock with Tater admitting that she should relax every now and then. The hammock breaks, causing everyone to fall out. Everyone heads inside the house, now with the AC fixed, but Tater convinces Pop that it is okay to relax in the hammock every now and then so that they do not have to be busy all the time. As the they lay in the fixed hammock, time passes with the world becoming futuristic.

Trivia[]

  • La Hamaca is Spanish for the hammock.
  • This is the first episode to feature a cold opening before the opening theme.
    • This is also the first episode with a Spanish title to not have its English translation on the title card.
  • The flower dress Tater wears when laying on the hammock is similar to the iconic flower dress Dani wears in the 2019 folk horror film, Midsommar.
  • When the primos form into one large mass on the hammock, it's possibly a reference to the ending of One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island where Luffy's crew is absorbed by the island flower.
