SuperStar Television was a live show that formerly performed at Disney MGM Studios. It was an opening day show which performed for almost a decade prior to its closure.
History[]
SuperStar Television was an opening day attraction sponsored by Sony. Prior to its opening, some public materials connected to the preview for Disney's MGM Studios referred to it as "Disney Television Theater". The show centered around guests trying to get the emcee's attention so they would make them participate in the show imagining of what they would be if they were in a live TV show. Once the guests participated, they would be taken backstage for costumes and make-up. In early years, guests saw an introduction film hosted by Alan Alda on the screen.
The show was slightly altered over the years and included clips from Empty Nest and Home Improvement. For almost a decade, SuperStar Television continued for many years prior to its closure on September 26, 1998 to make way for Disney's Doug Live!, themed after Disney's Doug, followed by The American Idol Experience while the theater itself was renamed "SuperStar Television Theater" as a tribute to the show. The building was later renamed "The Hyperion Theater" in 2015 when For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration performed in later years.
Attraction Summary[]
SuperStar Television featured guests in the audience who were cast in role of popular classic live-action TV shows over the years, such as General Hospital, Bonanza, Gilligan's Island, Cheers, The Golden Girls, I Love Lucy, and various other shows that had an impact in television history. During the show, guests would act with their assigned roles to perform what characters usually do on TV, giving guests an experience of imagining what actors would play in live television shows while a live studio audience would watch the finished product air on the screen during the show.
