"Talent Show" is the second segment of the eighth episode of the Disney Channel animated series, The Ghost and Molly McGee.

Synopsis[]

Molly tries to prevent Libby from humiliating herself in the school talent show without shattering her newfound confidence.

Plot[]

As Molly learns that her school is putting on a talent show, Scratch reveals that he actually loves them, not because he thinks they are cool, but because of all the backstage misery that occurs, thus allowing him to accrue misery points. Molly nevertheless, wants to support everyone regardless. Libby reveals that she will be signing up to be part of the crew as she suffers from anxiety and stage fright. However, she accidentally signs up for talent in ink and the sheet is taken away before she can fix it. Molly, believing it to be a sign, tells Libby that she should embrace it and she reluctantly agrees by deciding to do a singing act.

Libby's singing turns out to be horrible, much to Molly's shock and Scratch's delight. Scratch tells Molly that she could either tell her the truth, or wait for her to embarrass herself; Either way, Libby will be miserable. Molly does everything she can to make sure that does not happen and tries to use a variety of things such as auto-tune and making up excuses as to why she should back down from the show. Ultimately, she cannot do anything to stop her newfound confidence. On the night of the show, Molly still tries to use a variety of obstructions, but Scratch prevents this by managing to get Libby back onto the stage as the final act of the show.

Molly finally tells Libby the truth about her singing and while disappointed, decides not to back down and continue on. Libby changes her act by turning her song into a spoken verse poetry act. Scratch, upset by the switch, goes out to ruin her, but Molly steps in to fight him off, making it look like she is providing interpretive dance for Libby. The act turns out to be a success with Libby gaining adoration. Scratch is visibly disappointed, but believes his own misery counts towards his goal, making him happy again. Molly tells Scratch that from now on she is going to be honest with Libby, only to hide when she asks who she was talking to (Libby still cannot see Scratch).

Trivia[]

  • Moral: If someone is untalented at something (or just unready for it), it's better to be truthful and let them down gently, rather than enable them and get them into a predicament where they embarrass or endanger themselves.
  • This episode foreshadows the events of "Scratch the Surface".
  • Andrea's hair during the show resembles that of Megara from Hercules.

Goofs[]

  • When Libby starts singing to Molly at her home, she can be seen wearing her boots. But in the scene where she hides herself in her sweater she is only wearing socks.
