"Tales from the Great Bar-Mitzvah War!" is the sixth episode of the first season of M.O.D.O.K.. It premiered on Hulu on May 21, 2021.

Synopsis[]

M.O.D.O.K. struggles to "normalize" his weird son Lou’s bar mitzvah planning.

Plot[]

In the land of Asgard, Balder the Brave brings together his warriors to do something about a mysterious portal that has opened above their land. As he tries to rally them for battle, a paper shredder falls on him and kills him immediately. The portal is revealed to have come from MODOK back at A.I.M. He had developed a trash can designed to "screw with Thor" by dumping trash in it to Asgard. He also developed a trash can that connects to his stomach so that he can eat while drinking milk. It is flawed however as he vomits the milk; disgusting Gary who proceeds to vomit in his stomach trash can.

Austin approaches MODOK to inform him that he has not been keeping up with hid duties working the mail room, the spot he was demoted to, and that he needs to get to work, otherwise he will be further demoted. Austin does not want to do this as he would need to think of something lower for him. Furthermore, he has adopted a puppy named Sherlock in an effort to be more welcoming. MODOK tells Gary his plan to build a mech suit that is proportional to his head which he hopes to use on Austin and Monica. At that moment, Jodie calls him to come to the synagogue as Lou tried to do magic during a rehearsal and made a mess. Even though MODOK thinks she is trying to initiate phone sex, he goes anyway.

MODOK arrives as he and Jodie try to put up with Lou's odd behavior. He insists on a series of odd additional things to happen at his bar mitvah, though Jodie informs MODOK to spend time with him so that he can hopefully stave off his need to perform magic. MODOK takes Lou back to A.I.M. and asks him to bring his magic paraphernalia out. MODOK tosses all of it into the Asgard trash can and Lou desperately hops into it to get his things back. MODOK hops in after him (comically hitting things on the way down), only to see Lou get taken away by Kobolt Goblins. Before he can chase them, MODOK gets knocked out by some more trash.

MODOK awakens to discover his wires have been chewed out; removing his ability to float. He happens upon some goats and wrangles them to pull him in a cart (though ironically, he got the only two non flying goats). He rides through Asgard where Jodie calls him to see how Lou is doing. He manages to mislead her anything wrong, despite coming face to face with a "giant hulking squirrel", a frost giant and an even bigger squirrel before running into the Asgardian warriors. General Dagger tells MODOK that they are trying to find the one responsible for killing Balder, which MODOK hides. He further tells him that the Asgardians and the Kobolt Goblins have been at peace with one another, but that they take and eat unwanted children, pushing MODOK to find his son faster.

MODOK arrives at the Kobolt City where he discovers that Lou has become a magic entertainer. He is immediately put off by the fact that the goblins are all laughing at him. Lou goes up to MODOK to tell him while they did plan to eat him at first, he performed a ball duplication trick that saved him and he has since started performing for them. MODOK tells him that he does not want to see him be weird and that he needs to return home. When Lou tells him that he no longer has to hide who he is, MODOK incredulously tells him that he has to put up with his weird antics on a daily basis. This hurts Lou and he has him kicked out; forcing MODOK to plot going to war by convincing the Asgardians that Lou killed Balder.

The Asgardians and the Kobolts go to war with many people dying. Eventually, the Kobolts demand peace talks and MODOK shows up in a tank to talk to Lou. Lou accidentally scares one of the goats, which was powering the tank, and MODOK gets flung from it and crashes to the laughter of the Asgardians and the Kobolts. As Lou goes over to help him up, MODOK finally tells him that this is the reason why he wanted to stop him from performing magic; because he did not want him to get laughed at. He tells him that he does not want him to be like him because hate him and wants him to act more like Tony Stark. Lou tells him that wants to be like him and they discover that they have things in common. However, the Kobolts demand justice and capture MODOK for execution.

MODOK is to be executed by Lou, but he performs a saw box trick to save him, which MODOK ends up liking. Back on Earth, MODOK speaks with the rabbi and tells her that he now appreciates Lou's magic tricks, but she tells him that Lou's magic is not the problem. She explains that Lou performs magic as a way to cope with the divorce between him and Jodie and that he needs to find a way to reconnect with his son. MODOK takes Lou back home, but does not tell him of what his decision is to have him perform magic or not. Meanwhile, the younger MODOK speaks with Super-Adaptoid who suddenly wants to turn on MODOK and his family due to the harshness he receives from them. Young MODOK unveils three coffin like devices, which Super-Adaptoid idiotically misidentifies what they are for.
