This article is about the character from Enchanted. For other characters, see Morgan (disambiguation).

Morgan Philip is a supporting character in Disney's 2007 animated/live-action film Enchanted and the deuteragonist in its 2022 sequel Disenchanted.

She is the daughter of Robert Philip, who despite her father misunderstanding her and telling her otherwise, she believes in fairy tales and believes that magic exists. After she and her father meet Giselle on a billboard, her father lets Giselle stay in with them in their apartment until they find a way to get her home, despite her father worrying about her safety. Eventually Robert falls in love with Giselle and they get married, Morgan becoming the stepdaughter of Giselle.

Years later, after Morgan became a teenager, Giselle gave birth to her half-sister, Sofia Philip, causing them to move to Monroeville, much to her dismay. When she is infected by Giselle's wish to live a fairytale life and Monroeville turns into Monrolasia, she is transformed into her stepmother's scullery maid.

Background[]

Morgan is Robert Philip's imaginative 6-year-old daughter. She befriends Giselle and is not sure how she feels about the initial thought of her dad marrying Nancy.

Personality[]

Morgan is an outgoing 6-year-old girl who is not afraid to speak her mind about Nancy to her father. Even though Giselle is a stranger to her at first, she speaks to her without being shy. She, however, is shy at the beginning of the movie.

Physical appearance[]

At 6 years old in the first film, Morgan is small and slender with brown hair and eyes, fair skin, and rosy cheeks. In the second film, at 16 years old, Morgan is now taller, has a different eye color, and now has freckles.

Appearances[]

Enchanted[]

Morgan Philip likes the woman (Nancy Tremaine) that her father is dating, but she does not consider her as the mother material type. When Giselle comes to the real world, Morgan immediately befriends her. Later, she starts to show tearful expressions when Giselle leaves. She even takes Giselle on a shopping spree with her father's credit card so that she can go to the King and Queen's Ball that is being held in New York City. Morgan is later seen after Giselle and Robert are a couple, dancing with her father and new stepmother.

Disenchanted[]

A teenage Morgan appears in this movie, now portrayed by Gabriella Baldacchino. She has grown out of fairy tales due in large part to feeling left out of the magic from being Giselle's stepdaughter rather than her biological daughter and from having to move from the city to Monroeville. After several embarrassing incidents with Giselle, and after sneaking back to the city, Morgan lashes out at her.

After Giselle wishes for a fairy tale life, Morgan becomes a scullery maid and a wide-eyed dreamer akin to Cinderella, doing chores for her now wicked stepmother, with a crush for the prince, Tyson. When Giselle sees Morgan with Tyson, she punishes her by making a long list of chores to be done and locking her in her dank and dusty room. After sneaking out of her tower, and upon seeing Giselle fight with her good and wicked sides, Giselle pushes Morgan into the wishing well in their backyard, sending her to Andalasia.

Upon arriving in Andalasia, Morgan's memory is restored and she gradually takes in that she is animated. She meets with Queen Nancy, King Edward and some of the other inhabitants of Andalasia who show her an ominous cloud sucking up everything magic in Andalasia. Morgan, Nancy and Edward conclude that Giselle used the Wand of Wishes to change her world, sending all the magic of Andalasia to Monroeville. The three visit Giselle's old house to see her memory tree, but it is dying. Upon seeing a memory of when she first saw Giselle on the billboard in New York, Morgan reminisces about it and touches the branch, restoring it. As Morgan helps restore the tree, her rags transform back into a beautiful ballgown and she and Nancy return to Monrolasia, while Edward stays behind to keep an eye on things.

When they return, Morgan goes up to her room to retrieve the memory tree that she made with Giselle, and she and Nancy go off to find Giselle. They meet up with Tyson who offers Morgan a ride on his horse, and reunite with Robert. Upon entering the ballroom, Morgan almost loses the memory tree, but it floats its way to Giselle, who initially dismisses it as "useless garbage", and tears it to shreds. But the memories on the tree bring Giselle back to normal. Unfortunately, Queen Malvina puts Morgan under a sleeping curse and holds her hostage so she can have the wand for herself. When Giselle gives it up, the wand breaks and Morgan wakes up. As it gets closer to midnight, more of Andalasia, including Giselle's old house, makes its way to Monrolasia, and Giselle begins to magically fade away. Giselle tells Morgan that magic cannot be broken and she has to use what is left of the wand to make a wish. Morgan protests because she is not "a true son or daughter of Andalasia", but Giselle insists that she is, because she is her daughter. As Giselle gives her last breath, Morgan wishes that she were home with her mother.

The next morning, Morgan is for once relieved to see she is back in her old room sleeping in her bed covered with her burned clothes. She goes downstairs to see Giselle alive again and Robert saying he had the "strangest dream". Giselle explains that only those who used the wand will remember the events while everyone else will think it was just a dream. Some time later, Giselle and Morgan's relationship is repaired and Morgan begins dating Tyson.

Trivia[]

  • Morgan is the second New Yorker to actually visit Andalasia and thus the second real world character seen in animated form. However, unlike Nancy, she didn't stay after going there due to having a family she had to save and a life to get back to.
  • Besides becoming a scullery maid while she had the role of Cinderella during Giselle's wish in Disenchanted, there happened to be two things that were seen in the 1950 film, Cinderella, and one only in the 1997 and 2021 films:
    • Morgan met her prince in the village before the ball and she thought that he was a peasant, similar when the 1997 and 2021 Cinderellas met their princes in the same way.
    • Morgan is locked in her room by Giselle, similar when Cinderella is locked in her room by her stepmother, Lady Tremaine.
    • Morgan's torn dress is transformed into a beautiful dress by magic that surrounded her while Morgan raised her arms, similar when the Fairy Godmother transformed Cinderella's torn dress into a beautiful dress by magic that surrounded Cinderella while she raised her arms.
  • The only shirt of Morgan's that survived the fire was a Zadig&Voltaire graphic tee.
  • Despite Morgan being recast in the sequel, her original actress, Rachel Covey, has a brief cameo as a Monrolasian girl who reminds Giselle that the festival is that night. ("For the festival? M'lady?")
