Tetti-Tatti's Sailors are minor characters and Tetti-Tatti's ex-minions (at the end) from Disney's 1946 animated short The Whale Who Wanted To Sing At the Met, a segment of the 1946 package film Make Mine Music.
Background[]
Personality[]
Nothing is known about them except they were hired by Tetti-Tatti to try and hunt down Willie to rescue the Opera Singer he apparently swallowed. However, they become so appreciative about his singing that they refuse to kill him, knowing he didn't swallow a singer. Later, Tetti-Tatti manages to break free without them noticing, and when he harpoons Willie, the sailors, enraged and horrified, attack their captain.
Physical Description[]
All three look exactly the same—barrel-chested with a large rounded jaw, shaven head, reddish-brown beards, wearing the typical sailor suits, with the typical buff male triangular body design.
Role in the film[]
Tetti-Tatti's sailors are first seen when they notice Willie singing opera with their ship standing on top of his head, while Whitey gestures to Tetti-Tatti to take a look at Willie who is singing, just before putting the ship onto the surface of the ocean. All of a sudden, the sailors exit the cabin to see Willie while Tetti-Tatti commands them to fire a harpoon at the whale. However, Willie continues to sing and moves at various spots of the ocean, leaving the sailors confused and instead of shooting him, they become distracted upon listening to Willie singing opera. An impatient Tetti-Tatti orders his sailors to do his task, but they all silence him as they continue to hear Willie singing. After Willie finishes singing, Tetti-Tatti's sailors are impressed for his performance as they and Whitey cheer for him.
Tetti-Tatti's sailors are later seen listening to Willie using his tenor voice as they listen to his singing while Tetti-Tatti attempts to shoot Willie with a harpoon, but they restrain him, which he thinks they are putting him on mutiny, just as Willie continues to sing using his tenor, baritone, and bass voices to impress the sailors. Later during the Metropolitan Opera House sequence after Willie finishes singing his act, Tetti-Tatti's sailors are seen in the audience where they are seated on a balcony cheering for Willie just as the crowd continues to cheer for his performance. During the end of the segment, Tetti-Tatti's sailors are last seen restraining their boss who successfully fired a harpoon at Willie who was later killed. They do not appear again in the aftermath where the narrator tells the viewers not to be upset at Tetti-Tatti for misunderstanding Willie who then sings in heaven.
