"The A.V. Kid" is the second segment of the forty-ninth episode of Recess.

Synopsis[]

Brock must choose a successor for A.V. Kid because he's leaving Third Street for Portugal. T.J. and Vince would both like the position.

Plot[]

Miss Grotke prepares the class to watch a video for their next lesson. To this, they are visited by Brock, better known as the A.V. Kid, who supplies them with the video equipment necessary to watch the tape. As he leaves, Miss Grotke realizes that he forgot to give them the cable needed to connect the TV to the VCR. T.J. and Vince, who admire Brock, volunteer to get the cable for her, but forget their hall passes. They are caught by Miss Finster, but are saved by Brock who takes them into his care and supplies them with the cable needed. As they compliment his position, he tells the two that he is "going to miss it".

The Recess Gang learn from Menlo that Brock is moving away to Portugal and is currently searching for someone to take over his position. T.J. and Vince immediately sign up, but become competitive with one another, determined to be the new A.V. Kid. T.J. and Vince, along with several other kids vie for the position with Brock leading them. Over the course of his training, kids begin dropping away, usually with a stern "Out!" by Brock. After several sessions. The candidates for the position of A.V. Kid boil down to T.J., Vince and a nerdy and inept young kid nicknamed Lance the Pants, much to their confusion.

The final task involves fixing an old fashioned video projector. The task is difficult, but T.J. and Vince overcome their rivalry to help each other out and successfully fix their projectors while Lance's tie gets stuck in his. Brock finally comes to his decision and picks Lance over T.J. and Vince. He explains that the life of an A.V. Kid is a lonely one and their friendship would get in the way of performing the duties necessary for completing tasks. The two agree that either of them getting the position would have ruined their friendship and they, along with the rest of the gang, are surprised to see Lance "A.V. Kid" the Pants taking to his new job well.

Cast[]

Trivia[]

  • Understandably, this is Brock's first and only appearance in the series. This is also Lance the Pants' first and only appearance, despite him taking over the role of A.V. Kid.
