The Avengers Project is a video game series based on the characters of the Avengers franchise, developed by Eidos Montréal and Crystal Dynamics (developers of the Deus Ex and Tomb Raider series) and published by Square Enix.
On January 26, 2017, Square Enix announced a partnership with Marvel Entertainment to create multiple video games based on Marvel properties, the first of which was announced to be based on The Avengers and developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal.
On May 29, 2019, the first title of the series, Marvel's Avengers, was revealed at Square Enix's E3 2019 event.
- Although no gameplay was shown in the announcement trailer, some of the items of the members of the Avengers are shown, such as a broken doorpane, a hammer that shoots lightning, a shield with a star on it and an armored hand.
- This is the second collaboration franchise between Square Enix and Disney after the Kingdom Hearts series.
- This is also the first collaboration franchise between Square Enix and Marvel (which is owned by Disney).
- Before Square Enix's acquisition of Eidos in 2009, Crystal Dynamics developed games based on Disney properties, including Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour and 102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue, both of which were published by Eidos Interactive.
