The Badger is a character from the 2020 Disney/Pixar animated short Burrow.
Background[]
The badger is one of Rabbit's neighbors who lives underground with many underground animals. He is usually shown to live in a large dark home underground occasionally showing a rather pragmatic personality. However, in spite of that, he showed help to Rabbit when she accidentally caused the flood water to rise, understanding of the problem she accidentally caused in the first place. The badger also became supportive of Rabbit, especially when it came to the flood she accidentally caused in the first place as he took part during the situation with the other animals. He also supported Rabbit in building her own room with many other underground creatures.
Role in the short[]
When Rabbit knocks on the badger's door trying to ask for help, he ferociously roars, telling her not to disturb him, which Rabbit worriedly digs underground father below the badger's burrow. However, when Rabbit accidentally causes the water to rise from underground, she alerts the badger to tell her to know what is going on.
Just as the badger wakes up from his nap, he approaches Rabbit telling him that she was digging all along and suddenly the rising floodwaters are coming, claiming that it is her fault while trying to build her own room and as the badger grabs her sketch, he then understands that she is trying to build a room like in her sketch. The badger lets out a roar to call the other underground creatures to help Rabbit. Amongst the underground creatures approaching the badger are moles, hedgehogs, toads, mice, salamanders, and ants just as the badger tells Rabbit to explain what the problem which the animals plan to escape from the flood which Rabbit accidentally caused. Later, the badger is seen working together with various other animals building Rabbit's house.
Trivia[]
- The badger is likely a European badger (Meles meles), a species of badger that is nocturnal and rarely seen during the day to which the short Burrow was set in an English countryside; the way Rabbit attempted to wake him up is a reference to European badgers being rarely seen during the day, although the badger featured in Burrow became friendly to Rabbit so he could help her, especially when it came to the rushing water.
