"The Bug Stops Here" is the second segment of the eighth episode of the third season of The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh that originally aired on ABC on October 27, 1990.
Synopsis[]
When Pooh must babysit Roo and Owl's cousin Dexter, a quest goes out to hunt Rabbit's troublesome bugs for Christopher Robin's science project.
Plot[]
One day, Kanga and Owl ask Pooh to look after Roo and Dexter while they go somewhere (possibly to run errands). However, once the two leave, Roo and Dexter immediately make a mess in Pooh's house. Pooh meanwhile isn't concerned and decides they should go to Christopher Robin's house to see him. When the three along with Tigger and Piglet arrive at his house, Christopher Robin reveals a new science project he plans to show at school right when his mom calls him to do his homework. With curiosity getting the best of them, the group opens the box revealing a small green bug. Panicked, Tigger jumps on the bed causing the box to the floor and the bug flees the room. When Christopher Robin comes back up, the group tell him about the bug in the box and how they got rid of it. However, Christopher Robin tells them that the bug was the project and without a bug, the whole thing would fail. Realizing their mistake, Pooh and the others decide to help find a bug for their friend which Christopher Robin is grateful.
Going into the Hundred Acre Woods the group head to Rabbit's house as they'll likely find bugs in his garden. At the same time Rabbit is trying to chase the bugs out of his garden with a broom when Pooh and the others arrive and ask if they could get a bug to help Christopher Robin. Rabbit says that he chased all the bugs out and he doesn't have any to offer them, so Tigger decides to go bug hunting which he considers dangerous to Roo and Dexter. As Tigger, Rabbit and Piglet leave to set traps to catch bugs, Roo and Dexter tell Pooh that they'll instead go bug meeting (make friends with a bug). Remembering his baby-sitting duties, Pooh decides to follow them to keep an eye on them.
Finding themselves in a dark part of the woods, Roo and Dexter quickly find that they're lost so they stop to take a lunch break with a sandwich. When they're about to eat it, they suddenly find their sandwich missing and the two become more worried that they'll never get back home. Suddenly their sandwich returns revealing the culprit to be a huge bug who was exiled from the bug clan because of his gluttonous appetite. The bug had apparently heard their conversation and returned the sandwich back as an apology. Seeing the grateful action, Roo and Dexter invite him back and even offer a bit of their sandwich to him where they become friends. While the two are worried that they're still lost, Pooh suddenly arrives and meets up with them. He's surprised at how big the bug is but believes Christopher Robin will be happy with the find regardless. Upon returning back to check on the bug hunting, they find that the only thing Rabbit, Tigger and Piglet manage to capture was themselves.
Giving the bug to Christopher Robin, he is amazed at the size of the bug and that project is a huge success. Rabbit isn't too delighted with the bug, given that he has literally fed him his entire garden to satisfy him. Roo and Dexter tell Christopher that the bug is their friend and ask what he will do with it, and he says once his project is done, he'll let him go much to the two's delight. Once Christopher Robin's project is complete, Pooh, Piglet and Dexter say good-bye to the bug who is instantly invited back into the bug clan when he gives them a load of vegetables he got from Rabbit. On the way back to Pooh's house, Roo and Dexter tell Pooh that he's the best babysitter they ever had which Pooh appreciates.
